Clutch Problem on Drive Home from Dealer!

I picked up my 07 Cayman today and 12 miles from the dealer I ran into the dreaded and well discussed clutch problem! I was stuck in traffic on the highway and had to push my Cayman accross several lanes of traffic to the break down lane. After waiting for Porsche Roadside, I tried to pull the clutch out (which was stuck to the floor) by hand. The clutch released almost as if it was hinged and came unlocked. I know that the clutch is hydraulic but this is what it felt like. I was able to drive the car back to the dealer and was given a loaner. I certainly hope to have my real car back tomorow, after all it does not even have 50 miles on it yet!

Is the slave cylinder or flyweel bolt fix completed short order? I am told the service dept is booked, but expect given my situation to be handled first.

Update: Picked up the car from the dealer and the clutch was stuck on the floor when I picked it up. The detailer must have left it in that position. I showed the dealership manager and he was dismayed. Since the service dept was closed and there was no possibility of obtaining parts I took the car home. I put 100 miles on it today and the problem has yet to repeat. I am dripping fluid in the garage. I will try to catch some in a container to show the Tech. I suspect the slave cylinder change is next.

It will depend on if they have the parts in stock... If it's the flywheel bolts, I would count on a two day repair even if they start on it first thing tomorrow. They have to pull the motor and transmission, check out all the parts to see if there's been damage done, etc. Most of these have taken a couple of days from what I've heard. If it's the slave cylinder, then it's a one-day thing, if they have the part.

Sorry to hear you've started things out this way. It will be better.

Boston Driver,
That sucks! For this to happen on your first drive is just unforgiveable. I hope that the dealer gets your car repaired for you tomorrow. Tomorrow will be one week since I took delivery of my CS. If this happened to me I would be going crazy.

Daytona.

Speaking of which, I just picked mine up tonight after being in service for 2 days. Both the clutch disk and pressure plate were replaced. Only 600 miles on the odometer. Shifting feels great now -- even from day one it seemed way too hard to get into first and second, and now I know why.

The dealer told me I was the 4th they've seen thus far.

Wow! I didn't know there was a clutch problem?! I haven't had any problems yet. Should I be expecting any problems?

Clutch pedal sticking

There is less than 400 miles on my 2007 Cayman S and I have had my clutch pedal stick at least 6 times now. Basically when releasing the clutch pedal from the floor, it stops half way up (just short of the clutch grabbing). I then put it into neutral and "pop" the clutch up with my toe. This has only occurred when at a complete stop (so far) such as at a red lights or stop signs. I can't make the sticking repeat itself even seconds after it occurs on its own.

My brother drove it yesterday and parked it in gear. When I got in the car hours later I found the clutch pedal stuck down at the floor (not half way up as previous); I had to reach down with my hand and give it a pull to pop it back up. My brother said he was unaware if the clutch pedal did or did not follow his foot up as he exited the car.

Has anyone had this experience in their Cayman that can let me know what the problem was or can I expect it to clear itself up as parts loosen up?

Thank you,
Joe

Joseph - Get it into the dealer pronto - it's either the slave cylinder going away or the flywheel bolt problem - if it's the bolt problem, you would probably be having trouble getting it into 1st or 2nd gear, too.

Either way, this is soooooooo, not normal - stop driving it and get it into the dealer...

Clutch Update

The dealer has diagnosed as the master (slave) cylinder. I am hopeful that the part arrives today, in which case the dealer has a Tech on stand by for the repair. I cant help but wonder if this might be a warm weather phenomenon, as it was 94+ degrees on the day I took delivery. Perhaps heat impacts the seal? or perhaps the seal was faulty anyways...

Had nothing to do with the temperature - there's been a few reports of the slave cylinder going out - usually within the first 100-500 miles, if it's going to... so, it's a known issue on come cars.

Hi just joined this great site today and read your post...you must have been gutted...yes this happened to me on my first full day in the car with my wife. We live in Devon but went to London for the weekend, and the car was stuck on a four cross way in Convent Garden...a major busy intersection...embarassing or what. However once on the side of the road waiting for Porsche UK a few people came over and chatted. They all loved the car and said if it was a ferrari or similar I`d have got slated and loads of real bad comments...put my faith back in the car. Apparently the bolts on the clutch plate were too short and this complaint meant all following cars had this resolved before delivery
