Window poltergeist

My passenger side window is now running amuck. Lowers fine, but when I raise it, it will "stop", go back down (or up!) or do nothing at all. Sometimes it will go to the top, then lowers itself half-way...

My driver's side window is now lowering on its own occasionally as well, and I have to lock the doors to get it to reset back to the 'up position'.

Taking it in next week.

Interesting issue.

Paul

Paul did you try the infamous re-programming? I know you have had problems with your Cayman's windows before so it probably is a dealer issue again (for you).

No, I have not tried to re-program.

I have the same issue with my passenger side window. The "window goes up, stops, then goes back down again" problem only occurs intermittently (like less than 10% of the time), so I haven't been concerned enough to take it to the dealership yet.

Possible Fix

My driver's side window was going wonky a week or two ago and a call to the dealer gave me this quick fix:

With the engine off, ignition on, and window up, press and hold the window button in the up position for a few seconds, then release it. Wait a few seconds, then press and hold it up again for a few seconds (I guess to let it know you're serious about reprogramming) and all should be fine.

Should work on the passenger side as well.

UK reprogramming

It should work exactly the same, but you might have to adjust for the $US / GBP exchange rate.

MY window just started doing this today. The passenger side. I heard about this reprograming and checked the forum and ran into this thread. What is the official re-programing technique?

is it whs\at is mentioned by C.G.Mojo here: With the engine off, ignition on, and window up, press and hold the window button in the up position for a few seconds, then release it. Wait a few seconds, then press and hold it up again for a few seconds (I guess to let it know you're serious about reprogramming) and all should be fine.

Park Place Dallas no help for this

I've been having this only on the passanger side for the last 21K and finally had it in for the 20K service. Also was having a very wierd mystery cabin light on/off issue and a funky cruise control foul up. First they said PCNA wouldn't allow any attempts at module replacement unless the dealer could witness the problem. Anyone who knows about intemittant elec defects knows they're very shy in front of the dealer! After 14+ days of the car just sitting, I told them to either swap out a good DME and associtated modules from one of their new cars or replace all of mine with new ones or I would keep the loaner car until all was fixed. No hurry, just putting miles on the loaner until my car was ready. Anyway, so far, the cabin light/CC may be okay, BUT the moment I picked up the car, the window did the same thing it was doing for the last 20K. The invoice said "couldn't demonstrate problem...lubed seals". Now it still jams/stops, and they've added a loud sqeek with the poorly conceived "seal lube" fix.

Not so great.

Will try the reprogram....since it only happens approx 10-15% of the time...may be a while. Hoping the window doesn't stick in down position.

This has worked for me: Engine off or on doesn't matter. Run the window all the way down. Run the window all the way up . . . holding the button the whole way. When the window is all the way up push the up button again.
