This morning when starting the car, the console display system for the radio and CD player froze at the "PORSCHE" power on message and now nothing works except CD eject. Anybody had that? Is there a known reset process for it?
Im sure the reason is the memory and/or system settings got corrupted when the battery voltage was low during engine start.
The only similar situation I have run into was with my TT..and I have NO idea if this translates to our Caymans, but I guess it's worth mentioning... The TTs had a problem with the guage lights doing the same thing and it was always one of two problems...
1. Bad guage cluster (which i highly doubt you have, since it was only the PCM freezing)
2. Consistant voltage coming from the battery.
I had the 2nd problem and replacing the battery fixed it. It's strange that restarting the car didn't fix the problem......
Anyway, I would say either pull the fuse to maybe reset the PCM, or get the battary checked.
I pulled the fuse to the DVD player. Key in to check power was off. Fuse back in, key in and hey presto it works again!
Thanks for the hint! Saved a trip to the dealer.
We can put that one down into our knowledge data base.
The fact that it even hapened in the first place is a worry however.
