This is the 3rd time this has happened to me. I turned my car on and it says "CDS" then no sound from the radio. I adjust the voume and it doesn't work. Then I try turining it on and off. After turning it turns back on, it displays "STOP" and no other button works. What's wrong with this? Help
Mine is doing the same thing. It seems to happen when I am listening to a CD and then turn the car off and when I get back in and start the car. The only thing I can get it to do is eject CD, then I hit the FM button. Then you can put the CD back in and it will play fine. The other day mine wouldn't play a CD when I first put it in. All it said was Track 1. This is just another example of the sub-par POS sound system Porsche chose to put in a 60K+ car. Also, the horrible radio reception drives me insane! Some people want to defend Porsche and say "It's a driver's car, not worried about the radio, I just listen to the sound of the motor". I love to ride along listening to the sound of the engine, but sometimes I like to jam along back roads listening to a great CD!
I expect to have a radio that works and is of decent quality from a 60K+ car. No excuse for this POS sound system especially when I paid extra for it!
Mine does it with store bought CD's that are brand new without a mark on them. I don't know if it is a laser problem or a software problem with the head unit. I was just waiting til it got worse or til I could get it to do it at will, before I took it to the dealer.
My CS radio stopped working and all other radio/cd functions.
Took it to the dealer and they had a fix. They re-flashed the on-board chip with a new software.
WOW....I thought it was just me that was having this problem. Sometimes when going from CD to the radio I have to push the radio button several times to ge it to work. Also if I am close to a radio broadcast station the sound is great and if not the audio and music quality sucks. I know that I can get an external whip antenna, but that would mess up the looks of the car.
I e-mailed my dealer to see if this is a problem and they answered back that they have not heard of anything. Perhaps more of us need to voice this issue to our dealers.
This is not a new problem. The CD player often froze up on my old Boxster S. It would happen if I turned off the ignition and the CD was still playing. (If I turned of the radio first and then turned off the ignition everything was fine.) I would pull the fuse, put it back in and the CD/Radio would work fine after that. I haven't had that problem with the Cayman . . . . . yet.

My CS does this so much that I'm thinking of putting a toggle switch on the power wire so that I don't have to pull the fuse every time.

WOW I thought mine was just a unique case as well, when I have a cd in while turning on the car it says stop too. then it will eject on its own or turn off. I have to push fm then cd a few times. also if i am switching tracks it freezes then just automatically goes to fm and ejects the cd.

Cayman W has a point when others say "It's a driver's car, not worried about the radio"! Well the car performes very well and is more than I expected however, I do like to drive and listen to "state of the art" FM while going down the road. Seems like something so basic is being sluffed off which shouldn't be. A $200 radio/cd player sounds better and is more reliable than this one that is in a very expensive car.
From the posts it seems like the US owners are the only ones that care about a reliable/quality sound system. Maybe the car should have no radio/CD at all if that is the feeling from the performance folks.
I could live with it if I could change out the radio for one of choice but that can't happen.
What's next? What can we do about it?
Help Porsche!
