Radio problem - back!

Like a poltergeist, my radio stopped working last night. Unlike others who see "PORSCHE" stuck on the radio display, mine seems to function ... that is, one can switch from AM to FM to CDS to CDC. The radio and the m/f display shows the track playing or station but NO SOUND! It's like the amplifier isn't turned on (I have the Sound Plus package).

The last time this happened, back in May, the dealer reprogrammed the radio. Of course, this morning it's back to "normal". I hate intermittent electrical problems. Now I have to wait until it stops working again before I call the dealer.

gtkyl, like you and others (there are a few similar threads) i've experienced a similar problem twice before where "PORSCHE" is displayed, but there is no sound. as this was an intermittent problem that corrected itself and has not reoccurred, i haven't dwelled on it.

however, this morning i experienced a different issue. the display was blank (except for it being backlit), it did not display the radio station nor the volume level. but it evidently was receiving the signal from the radio station as i could hear the broadcast...however, none of the controls worked and i couldn't adjust the volume nor could i change the station. it lasted for about 5-6 minutes then corrected itself.

I had the same problem in my old Cayenne. The dealer replaced the amps, and the problem was solved.

It's not the amp if you have a sound package plus system, even if the amp fails, half the speakers will still work. There is a string of bad CDR-24's out there and a TSB related to them; your dealer should replace your headunits.

To fix it pull the fuse from the fuse box for the radio for 10secs and re-insert. It will then do a full powerup reset. Good luck!

gtkyl -

I had the same problem when I was installing my Dension iPod adapter. The radio appeared to be in proper working order but no sound. I finally tracked it down to a poor connection in the MOST fiber optic cabling. Because your problem is intermittent it would seem that a poor connection would be the source of your problem. I would suggest that you (or your dealer) go through each connection and make sure they are all tight.

my intermittent radio problem is back, but now it displays the station i'm listening to, but i can't adjust the volume or even turn it off. First problem, "PORSCHE" was displayed but no sound. Then the next problem i could listen to the radio, but the display was blank (except for it being backlit). Now, i can listen to the radio and it displays the station, but i can't adjust the volume or turn the radio off.

as soon as i have the time, i'll take it into the dealer.

Ooops...sorry not the sound button, the CD square button on top of the CDr-24 was stuck in the face frame causing the same symptoms.
