I have one question, though: does Porsche (or anyone) offer any alternate keys or remotes? I find the standard one uncomfortable in jeans pockets because it so large. It also accidentally opens the trunk while in my pocket, which I'm afraid will run down the battery overnight since that turns on lights.
I tried using the small spare key, but it doesn't really seem practical since it sets off the alarm if you don't get it into the ignition within 10 seconds after opening the door.
I had the same problem. I bought the Mods4Cars module that gives the car horn response for lock/unlock and it also requires a full 2 seconds of remote transmission to open either trunk. There are a couple other benefits (window control with the remote and so on) but you can search the site for all the info.
This doesn't fix the uncomfortable key in your pocket dilemma but as least you'll know if you've accidentally opened the door or trunk lids.
Mods4Cars
Mods4cars was founded in 2002 with the idea to add a highly demanded feature to the otherwise almost perfect Porsche Boxster: Comfort One-Touch roof operation while driving at slow speeds. The resulting product offered not only that, but also allowed quick and easy installation by just swapping out a relay box, thus leaving no traces and no permanent changes on the vehicle. The first smartTOP roof controller was born.
If anyone can come up with an elegant solution to this annoyance, they will make a fortune! I for one would pay a significant amount for a nicely crafted flick style key fob.
I guess that's one advantage of getting old. You don't wear tight jeans.
I have noticed that the key fob is very sensitive. The other day I was walking by the car . . . . with the key in my jeans. As I fumbled to get something out of my pocket - not the key - I heard the car lock.
It also accidentally opens the trunk while in my pocket, which I'm afraid will run down the battery overnight since that turns on lights.
That's not a problem. The trunk, hood & interior lights will turn off after 2 hours (unless the key is in the ignition) to prevent the battery from running down.

My CS is one of my most prized possessions. It is without a doubt the best car that I have ever owned or driven. Bar none. I love it more every time I drive it. That being stated- Why in the world would Porsche produce such a total POS object like this &%$@* key!!!!! The damn thing opens the trunk by accident at least 3 times every week!!!! I hate it!!!! I should not have to spend 300.00 to fix something as basic as a KEY with aftermarket parts!!!!!
If you do a search you'll find instructions, including pictures, on how one can modify the factory remote themselves thus making it take a good deal more pressure on the remote buttons to activate them and eliminating the accidental opening of the hatch, hood or doors. Sorry I do not remember the title of the thread but I do remember it was posted right around April to June of 2K6. I'm going to do it to my remote tomorrow...but I've said that ever since I took delivery of my CS back on 14 Jul 2K6...but I AM going to do it. It's and excellient idea IMHO.
I gave my dealership a list of items that I wanted done prior to delivery of my car, including making my key less sensitive. He didn't question that one at all, nor did he question any other item that I wrote down. My car is going to be at the dealer any day. Possibly yesterday- It was in port on Friday.
Why is it the owner's responsibility to fix a key that is simply clearly too sensitive? I think it is Porsche/dealer's responsibility. Am I missing something here?
The key business as you refer to it is more of a learned useage by the owner than a Cayman problem. Don't worry about it. The reaction time of the key is adjustable by the dealer and if that is still not enough there is a DIY fix in the files section. But it is really just something you have to pay a bit of attention to - just like learning to how to properly shift or check the air in the tires. It becomes second nature quickly.
