OK, so I'm sort of expecting some people to want to blast me for starting the Clutch Failure Registry, or maybe you just want to say something about this topic. This is the place to discuss it.
I would suggest choices for what was replaced when it was fixed. That way, you could do some sort of analysis to see what was most prevalent. A freeform text field will make it more difficult.
I haven't had the issue, so I'm just throwing out my .02.

Actually my thought is why limit it to clutch failures only? If someone wants to set up an online database with data entry form and give me a URL I could have it display inline on this site, if I would take the time to learn PHP and MySQL better I would just do it myself. Then we could keep all sorts of issues in the database and you could search it, run reports against it, etc. etc.
Good idea! I sense that folks with a problem have difficulty convincing service managers, etc. that anybody else also has had the same condition. This will give them a single reference.
Also suggest data for each category of problem showing the percentage of cars in the sample that are affected. This will nip the "my god, all Porsches break" reactions in the bud.

Reason: spelling
I'll put something together this weekend. Do you really care if its php/mysql if I host it and you link to it?

No I don't care what it is written in, I was just saying this site is written in that and I could do a direct integration, store it in the same database, etc. if I authored it in that on this site, but right now I don't have time to learn it and set it up, so I'll just link it in. Normally I would write it in ASP with Access or SQL on the backend, I can do that with my eyes closed...
I think that it is a great idea. It isn't a knock against the car. Stuff happens. The more information you have, the better your ownership experience will be. You are no longer at the mercy of gremlins!
Great idea. Killed me when I read about the failure in Germany. Had the wife over my shoulder saying "See!! See!! and you still want one of those!!"
Keeping this database on an enthusiast site provides tangible evidence and, just as important, kind of a friendly, chronic, annoying, poke in the ribs to Porsche by saying "You guys make awesome cars.... BUT, we know there's a problem with the clutch and we're keeping score. You best square your sh*t away if you want the volume turned down."

or something like that.
Exactly. This is what I had in mind in creating the threads. I am hoping to accomplish two things.
Show potnetial buyers that the list of effected cars is pretty small relative to the number of cars on the road.
Show Porsche that the list of effected cars is too long despite it's relatively small percentage.
It might be hard to have my cake and eat it too, but either way this goes, we all win.
Other benefits to documenting these failures:
We will have a nice clean thread to point dealer service managers to when they say, "Slave cylinders never fail. We just need to bleed it."
Other new owners who are unfortunate enough to experience this can find an instant support group and lots of valuable information.
