Rear Window Brake Light Gasket

My wife followed me home today. When I parked she said that the brake light in my rear window looked funny. I checked. The gasket had dropped down. I called Porsche and they said that it was an “easy fix”. I told them that I hoped it was . . . and while they were working on that part of the car they could work on the “clunk” . . . . because they didn’t get it fixed the last time that I was in. We’ll see what happens.

That part of the window was looking fogged. I guess that's why. I'll ask them to clean it before they seal it up.

That's sorta' like walking around with toilet paper stuck to your shoe. It's hard to look cool when your brake light looks funny.

gf - there's been quite a few reports in the complaints section about the 3rd brake light, the gasket, or both being loose... If you look through that forum, you'll see quite a few. maybe the guy who installs those in Finland is the same one in charge of ordering the slave cylinders...

Thanks, brad. I guess I missed them. I was just adding a new complaint to the list. In the scheme of things I guess this is a minor problem but when you are as anal as I am about my car . . . . .

I have the same issue - if it is a simple fix I would prefer to do it myself rather than take it to the dealer. Haven't taken the time to look and see what may be invovled in getting at that gasket though.

Same issue with the 3rd brake light on the car when it was sitting on the showroom floor. After I pointed it out to the salesman we walked over to another Cayman & same exact problem. I wonder if they fixed that yet.

Me too! Didn't think it was serious enough to take it in ... will wait until the 12mo service. They can fix that and "the clunk".

I had mine fixed and guess what, it came down again. I really think it the heat build up inside the car from the sun causing it. My next trip in for the first oil change I will have them redo it or order a new one for sure.

Is it a DYI? I haven't looked into access but if you can it should be a easy fix. Plus after you take it out you can actually clean the window around that area before putting everything back into place. When they fixed mine they just fixed it didn't even bother to wipe the area. Common sense to me but of course they ignored it.

this has happened to mine also. I had the car one week before noticing it. I took it to the dealer this weekend. I thought they would have just took it apart to fix it, but they said that they have to order the part I didnt question them because I figured a new one would be better than just a quick fix. They acted like this was the first car that they have seen with this problem.
