hi i looked around and didnt see any mention of this. The center console lid opens toward the driver instead of away like in all other cars. The button to release the center console lid is also on the passenger side. I assume this is because of the right hand drive thing, but why couldnt they have reconfigured the center console to open correctly for American cars? The only other annoyance is that the CD player does not play mp3 files and I even have the Bose system upgrade. $10,000 cars come with CD players that play MP3. I'm not talking about Ipod connections. I'm talking about the ability for the CD player to play mp3 files from a CD. Maybe this is just so that you can spend the money on the CD changer because you wouldnt need a changer if you could put 10 albums on one CD in MP3 format. Well, these are my only complains so far for my Base Cayman. Shame on you Porsche and thanks for reading.
It IS correct. If that button was on the drivers side, it would be roughly right on my kidney, and not easy to press. It's way easier to press it on the far side.

I do not understand why you are having an mp3 CD playing problem, just burn them as a music CD so they are converted, then its okay, thats what I do.
That's not what the OP is talking about. Burning mp3s as files instead of CD Audio allows you to burn many, many more tracks on a single CDR (10+ albums). CD Audio only gives you about 74 minutes per CD.
Okay I re read the OP and admit I jumped the gun on the mp3 thing.
I guess a possible explination is that they (Porsche) do not expect the average Porsche buyer to be into the technology to make their own cd's, rather they just insert their shop bought collection? or just listen to the engine.
I would agree that its a little backward when compared to most modern cars now.

The whole "the engine sound is the only music I need" is pure bunk. Threads on this debate usually go something like this:
<OP> I don't like the OEM head unit. It doesn't support MP3 CDs.
<Reply> I don't use the head unit. The engine sound is all the music I need.
Helpful, huh? I have yet to see anyone who has that view actually remove their head unit from their car.
The car came with a CD/AM/FM head unit. If someone doesn't want to use it, that's a valid decision. However, there are more than a few of us who feel that Porsche skimped on the entertainment system by not including MP3 CD support, iPod support, or even a simple AUX jack.
i agree . i love this car more than any that i have ever owned , and i am the farthest thing from a complainer , but honestly guys ( and gals) , Porsche should have put better , more updated sound systems in our cars . i know that some say they prefer to listen to the sound of the engine , but from time to time i like to listen to the radio,cd's,mp3's,etc.
