I know of the clutch plate problems and slave cylinder problems. However just this morning the clutch just started to only engage late and the take up seems a little mushy. Sounds to me likes its almost worn out already after just 16500kms! Cant be normal surely? And no I dont abuse the clutch, have never dropped it and dont do burnouts, only spritely takeoffs.

Could it be a temperture thing? Maybe when it is cold?

I took a look in the registry to see what year your Cayman is, and it wasn't there. This happens a lot. I have a question for you. Why do so many people not register their cars? Is it scary or something?

Your description sounds more like the pressure plate issue than it does the slave cylinder issue. But we haven't seen the pressure plate issue hit too many newer cars. Is your car a 2006?

Grabbing high would be a symptom of the pressure plate loosening up.

Grabbing low would be a symptom of the slave cylinder leaking.

The intermittent nature of the problem is a little harder to make sense of. But it's not unusual because the car has a hydraulic clutch actuation system. In a hydraulic system, if something moves, the system can simply take on more fluid and adapt to the movement.

Don't panic yet, but keep a close eye on it. If you start to experience trouble getting into 1st or Reverse, or if you see a puddle of hydraulic fluid on the ground, take it in.
