Trunk Rattle/Creak

Gents,
I have just clocked 2000 miles on my 4 week old '08 Cayman. The vehicle is really breaking in nicely. However, last night I was travelling home along a superb country road when my fun was disturbed by a very irrittating rattle/creaking sound from the rear of the car. The rear trunk was empty. I cant think what this could be. Any thoughts?

It could be the infamous trunk “clunk” or it could be the flap that covers the coolant and oil fillers. Do some searches and you will come up with all sorts of suggestions.

Rattle and creak is probably the divider that hangs down from the hatch blocking access to the rear trunk. If not mounted exactly right, it does that.

my 07 cs was creaking also, it happened because the passenger seat was leaning too far back and touching the engine cover. the problem went away after i adjusted the seat back.

My creaking in the back was caused by "air box mounts". It was fixed by the dealer.

I have had a rattle for 2000 miles from new and have and it isolated to the rear quarter-lights and trim panels on the sides. They need taking out by your dealer and the clips and surrounds need soundproofing. All the talk about boot cover was not the cause on my S. It took three trips to the dealer to find it. They have just done the o/s but will need to do the n/s on mine too. It was a big pain but I now know what to say. I hope this helps.

Rear Noise

In addition, I describe my noise as a creaking/rattle/crackle. It drove me mad!

we'll have to go to the shop soon it seems - we have 2,500mi on her now and it seems every 500 or so mi the car acquires a new boot rapscallion. i have a shrieking noise associated with driver seatbelt fixture, a mumble in the side quarter panel, and a jostle/buzz in my center brake light.

the center break light fixture - attached to the back window - seems to have a 1/2 finger of room in-between where it snaps in. this, i believe, is what is causing the new buzzing vibration noise. anyone else have this?

i would like to be able to drive w/out the radio so loud. my fault for putting off the shop.

Easy Fix

I had the annoying buzz from the rear of the car and couldn't figure it out until I was sitting under a bridge waiting for a traffic light to change. A big truck came by and caused the buzz. This lead me to the center brake light fixture - it does have about 1/2 play between the fixture and the window. I cut two small pieces (3/4") of vacuum hose, sliced them down the length of the hose to make a rubber channel, and jammed one on each side of the fixture and the buzz is gone.
