Shift Linkage

Well, had to have my baby towed this morning. I left a stop light in 1st gear, went to shift into 2nd gear (manual tranny) at about 20 mph and I heard a resounding "SNAP" and the shift lever went "completely limp". The car was locked into 1st gear. My guess is the shift linkage (cable) snapped loose somehow.

This is my 3rd warranty claim at 14,300 miles and 18 months of ownership.

Paul

Yep, that's it!

The guy that towed me (Porsche preferred vendor) said he just picked up a Cayman yesterday at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend as well....same problem.

As a wrap up to this incident:

1) One of the shift linkage cables (there are 2 of them) was severed. This was caused from the T-bar connection of the cables being out of alignment and created a "torque" where the cables were essentially fighting each other with each shift.

2) They replaced both cables (the other cable appeared fine / no damage).

3) Re-centered the gear shift.

Everything is back in working order...

I had a problem where some of the time I would need to double clutch transitioning between 1st and 2nd. Shift linkage cable was re-aligned and no more problem.
