Passenger side airbag alert

I have had my car for less than 2 months now and this is the only complaint that I have. The passenger side airbag alert is always on.
When I first got the car it did not come on but after a few days the light would go on and off. I brought it into the dealership on a friday and within an hour the technician had reset the seat and told me that everything should be ok. As soon as I drove off the lot the light came back on. I drove around the weekend and the light never went off. The only time it did was when i have an actual passenger.
I brought the car back and the technician told me that the alert being on is normal since the air bag is off when no one is in the passenger seat.
Is this normal? I do not like driving around with the red exclamation point staring back at me all the time.
Please help me..

Check to see if your passenger seat is all the way back, touching the bulkhead...

From our FAQ: Passenger Air Bag warning – Not in the manual but a common problem at least on ’06 models due to moving the passenger seat too far to the rear (other airbag information is contained in pages 42-48 of the 2006 US owners' manual).

You might want to read about some of the other Idiosyncrasies here:

From the manual:

"Your vehicle is equipped with a weight sensing
system for the passenger’s seat in accordance
with U.S. Federal/Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety
Standard 208. Depending on the weight acting on
the passenger’s seat, the passenger’s airbag will
automatically be switched on and off."

One additional item that may cause the Airbag light other than the seat back not being locked in place, check under the seat. I had a water bottle roll under the seat and when some one sat in it I would get an alert. Removed the water bottle and now no problems.

Something similar happened to me, a CD case got dislodged during some "ethusiastic driving" and got lodged under the seat. There weren't any important CDs in it, so I forgot it was even in the car. A few days later, someone adjusted the seat and the message popped up.

Wouldn't go away no matter what I did. I thought it was the bulkhead issue and so did the Porsche garage tech. Kept adjusting and still nothing. I was about to leave with him, when I did a once over through the car to make sure I hadn't left anything behind. Lo and behold, there was the "missing" case, jammed up under the seat. We raised the seat, extracted it, and everything's been fine since.

Even the CDs were ok.

My passenger airbag light came on after I placed my briefcase on the seat, and it stayed on after I removed my briefcase through several ignition cycles. I found that I had to sit on the passenger seat to turn the light off, so perhaps the weight sensor sort of got stuck.
