key opens trunk and hood all the time!!! :(

Am I the only one who experiences this?
the design of the key has the opening bar above the profile of the key face. every time i put the key in a pants pocket I return to find that I have an open trunk or hood and a battery on its way to discharge!
I'm a pretty thin guy and I dont think I should have to wear baggy pants to prevent this!!!

Take a breath mate, these things take time for a good answer

In relation to the problem, its a known problem. SInce discovering the issue from the reports at OPC level, they started to ship cars with this function disabled. However for those that have it enabled, they can go to their OPC and get the car reprogramed to prevent this from happening.

Other than the official route, its a known solution that you can open the key and file down the inner peg that presses the button on the PCB.

Regards

Popolou

Well, a few of things:

1 - You may want to give people more than one minute to respond

2 - You can check out this thread: Cayman Key-- BMW Solution

3 - You can search the forum and find many threads discussing this issue

Cheers

Checkout the Mods4Cars sponsor website. It helped me. You'd be surprised how much a short delay can help, not to mention the other benefits from their device....

If you have just another minute - take a look at the "similar threads" listing at the bottom of this page and you'll several related threads that you missed.

Within them you'll find many people who have had the same problem, and some of the solutions both good, bad and ugly.

And if you wait a really long time, assuming you drive your car a lot - say a few months, the sensitivity fades and all is well. I can't even remember the last time my key triggered an even unintentionally.

It happens to us all. And as fmarshall said, the key fob gets less sensitive over time.

And don't bother asking the dealer about the problem. They've never heard of it.

Actually there is a setting the dealer can make to the key adding a delay time before the lock actuates, i.e., you have to press the key for 1 or 2 seconds before the front/back lock opens. That was a running change and all newer cars should have that (my Oct 06 manufactured 2007 car has it).

*snarf*

i just laughed a bit too loud at this thread - great when you work with a bunch (a whisper, a hush, an index ...what is the grouping anyhoo?) of librarians...Ssssssh!

the only problem i have had with my key, in four months, is that it has popped open once or twice - and that it does not fold up all efficiently like an Audi key.
