Anyone had this problem before,
basically i drove home, turned the lights completely off but the left fog light was still on, didnt know what to do, so i drove around the block, went back home and the fog light had now turned off. Am thinking it was an elctrical problem,,any ideas..
you had your turn signal on. When you turn the car off and had the turn signal stalk in the up or down position....it turns on the marker for parking on the street. When you took your car out for a spin, the signal stalk returned itself to the default position which turned your parking light off or whatever the specific name for the light is called

All (almost all?) European cars have that feature. It is not unusual to see cars parked on a curb on a narrow street with the left or right parking lights on.
And most European cars come with a rear fog light too! Great for driving on the Autobahn in the fog. The rear fog light helps to keep you from being rear ended.
My '06 Subaru has the parking light 'option' too. Found out the hard way when they stayed on all the time and I couldn't get them to turn off without pulling the fuse. A quick call to Subaru led to the advice of 'look on top of the steering column for a switch'. Sure as heck, there was the switch that I must have inadvertently hit - I always thought it was the four way flasher but then a second look showed that was on the main console - and I've driven Subies for five years and never noticed this....?!
Have enjoyed this feature on European cars for years. On my 50's/60's Renaults and Mercedes there were dedicated(in addition to the parking lights), low wattage bulbs for this function and they were intended to be left on all night. On our 2000 BMW and on our CS it seems the regular parking lights are activated for this function and leaving them on all night could drain the battery.
The concept of a dark, narrow street in a continental village, where one might park, on either side of the road, and it would serve a real purpose to have a light on, on the traffic side only, has always had an appeal for me. To have retained this feature on "export" cars, without the low current drain circuits seems archaic. We park only in well-lighted, marked and designated spaces, right? And never all night, right? Unless we are home with our car in our own 4-car garage, right? Right.
Also, don't confuse the rear fog light with the left/right parking lights. The parking lights are normal, white in front, red in rear lights, like parking lights except only left or right can be activated (by the turn signal stalk with key off). The fog light is a dedicated, brighter-than-normal tail light, left side only, for increased safety in rain/fog conditions. Mine gave a certain peace of mind on the Autobahn at 120 mph in the rain while being passed by other cars going faster.

Reason: fog thoughts
