I have this and its the same thing. It only happens when I have the windows down and hit a bump or something. I tried placing my hand on the trim between the two windows and was able to get the noise to stop. I plan to mention it to the dealer next time I take it in.

i noticed there was no noise with the window down + applying pressure(using my left hand) on the small glass..... try it. let me know what happens
I found a previous post that led me to realize it is the divider between the windows. It's gotten worse on the left side and now has also started on the right side. I'm taking it to the dealer this Monday. I'll let you know what happens. It's a great car!

This is a floating window that is not bonded to the body like a windshield. A bolt below the glass holds it in place, and if the bolt is lose or snaps off (like mine did) it will "slap" against the window frame on certain bumps. This section of the body takes high torsional and bending loads and there is a bit of flex here. If the window is not tight, it will make noise as the body is torqued. Insulation or a new bolt will do the trick.
However, the dealers are not experienced with this repair, so make sure they understand the problem. The bolt is accessed by removing the cap where the shoulder belt feeds into the door jamb.
You are better off finding a dealer who has made this repair before. Otherwise the car will be out of commission for a while. Mine was gone for 4 days. Grrrr.
Got it fixed yesterday. I think the guidance from this forum made it easy to explain the problem to the mechanic. Dealer had it fixed in a few hours. Paper work mentioned TSB on the problem.
Could you possibly provide the TSB ID for those of us who have the same problem? This will make it easier to communicate it to our dealers to get it repaired.
Thanks,

In my case, it's more of a creak/squeak coming from that rear window. It happens more frequently when my window is fully closed, but it also happens (less frequently) when it is fully open too.
I'm taking it in tomorrow to get fixed. I'll report back.

Actually, once I've driven for about 10 minutes and go over 50 mph, I begin to hear a constant rattle in the rear, almost like it's right behind me. But I can't pinpoint where it's coming from.
It's the type of rattle like a high-pitched sound of fast shuffling cards (like when you attached a card to the spoke of your bicycle as a kid), or that sound you can make with your tongue going a thousand miles per hour against the roof of your mouth (I hope these two analogies ring a bell). If anyone else has this problem, I'd like to know how to fix it. It comes and goes. I'll hear it for 5-10 minutes and then it will go away for a while, then return. Very aggravating.
I have had this for a while now and I have written a thread about it. Originally, I was able to put little rubber insulators between the glass and the plastic trim which most got rid of the rattle for a quick road trip - it was short term as the noise came back...I just couldnt stand it and was leaving the next day.
Next, I began putting insulation between the cap over where the seat belt comes out. That didnt do anything. I knew if I placed my hand back there, the rattle would stop.
Next, I took off more trim and found that bolt I believe you were talking about...is it a silver hex or allen ( I dont remember)? I tried tightening it with no luck. Then, I decided to just take my car in for an alignment and had the rattle looked at simultaneously. They were able to fix the rattle for about 2 weeks, although it has come back much more managable. It is faint when driving over really rough patches of road...yet still bad enough I really want to be able to tighten that bolt down myself so I dont have to keep taking it in....can anyone confirm the bolt an the TSB? TIA

Hey I'm glad others are having this problem... now I don't feel so bad about going to the dealer to ask that it be fixed a second time.
The first time I had this repaired was after about a month of ownership. They removed everything down to bare metal around the left rear window, and installed felt tape on the window mounting brackets and trim clips. The noise went away for a few months, but is now back.
I notice it most over rough surfaces, and when lifting my foot off the gas to either decelerate or change gears. All those situations create some body flex, and that flex is what makes the window "click". At least that's what it seems like to me. Pushing my hand against the window makes it go away.
I tried tightening the hex bolt under the seatbelt access panel on the B pillar, but it didn't seem to help.
If there is a TSB on dealing with this rattle, it would certainly be helpful to know about it.
My service rep said that there are no TSBs for the Cayman that deal with any rattles or squeaks coming from the window. They fixed my noise for now though. Apparently, all the mechanic did was loosen and retighten the rear quarter window glass and reassemble the trim and carpeting. Let's hope it stays silent now!
