Replacing roofliner!?!

Has anyone else had to have their entire roofliner replaced?

2007 Cayman with 3000 miles on it. This is the third time it has been in for numerous rattles and squeaks... most noticeably a buzzing in the roof: so out with the old, in with the new... they say it is not repairable.

in addition a pretty bad whining when you let off the gas at about 55-60mph in 5th (5sp) and they ahve no idea what it is...

Has anyone got any thoughs/experiences? I love the car otherwise but MAN a lot of small annoyances for what I thought was a premium (and brand new) vehicle.

That seems rather odd.

Does the buzzing happen with the windows up or down?

You CAN replace the roof liner, it is about $850 for the part (should you want to change to alcantara, etc.) so it CAN be done, but I highly doubt this is the cause of the noise you are hearing. For example I had a loose plastic piece under my car and had a buzzing inside the car or at least I swore it was inside the car, but it wasn't. So it is worth having the service dept. track down the actual source, if they are good dept they'll put portable microphones on your car and drive it around and use those to help them pinpoint the source of teh problem and fix it.

I had a buzzing sound inside the car and finally determined that it was the headliner. The buzzing went away when I pressed my hand to an area above the driver's seat. Apparently, it was some broken/loose clips? The dealer took care of it as a warranty issue. So far, so good.

yes, if the passenger jams their hand on the liner abouve their head it goes away... they were going to replace the broken clips, but decided a new liner was best... I guess it is just knowing they had to go to such extremes in a brand new car that has me mad!

Maybe they'll give you Alcantara at their cost for the hassle?

It is always frustrating when things like this happen, but it sounds like the problem is an easy (minus your time and hassle) fix. That is the great thing about the CaymanClub. Someone is bound to have asked the question or had the experience before. You should feel reassured by wheelking's post.

Feel free to yell at me now for the therapeutic value.

Here...I will help you. Pretend that what I posted was this:

Look, you clown, maybe you should buy a Toyota. For all we know, you damaged the car on purpose and are trying to pull some kind of scam. Does the noise make your neck hurt?

LOL

Let us know if "the fix" fixes the problem. And forget about the "Alcantara" nonsense. Suede in a car has got to be the biggest joke in automotive history.

I have my 2007 Cayman scheduled for a roof clip replacement (not the liner) for exactly the same problem. It goes in on Tuesday and I hope to get it back buzz free.

Perhaps they had a bad batch of a certain part? (roof liner clips would be my guess).

Right on Dave! Especially since the Alcantara has been put on the endangered list. First the Nauga (used for making naugahyde) and now the poor Alcantara....

I couldn't pull up anything on the demise of the Alcantara but here's something you probably haven't seen on the Nauga that may give some of you seconds thoughts about how frivolous we can be in regards to our choices.

Your not alone with this noisy interior orchestra. I'm having the exact same problem! When I push up on the headliner above the seat the noise will cease momentarily. I had my cayman lowered making the ride more stiff and am wondering if that is possibly the cause. I also have a few dash noises when going over bumps. Yeah small irritating noises are BIG noises when one pays 70,000 for a car that has a reputation for refinement. My brand new toyota tundra is now making noise. Oh well, everything is under warranty
