Trunk Clunk - The Official Porsche Fix

I finally got an appointment last week to have the dealer perform the TSB for the fix (actually it's called a Workshop Modification, because I suppose Porsche doesn't admit it's a TSB level problem, which, by the way, the Service Manager did). Anyway, I persuaded the Service Manager to provide me with a copy of said bulletin, and he did.

Thanks to Ken, I was able to send my scanned files to the Forum; here are the links:

http://www.caymanclub.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=140
http://www.caymanclub.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=141
http://www.caymanclub.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=142

From what I could gather, they inserted some foam washers on the bolts holding the weight to the lid. Good News: it helps. Bad News: not enough (at least not on New England pothole infested roads). Bottom Line: I believe Rainers solution is both simpler and more effective. As an alternative, I'm also considering gluing a piece of bubble wrap on the lid to absorb the impact, might be better than felt or weatherstripping, who knows.

Progress with a small 'p'

I am...

Hearing the clanking and chirping from the plastic border around the rear hatch..is anyone else hearing it from the same place?

I think the chirping is coming from the latch...?

H & R springs + cold weather + 19s aren't helping me much!

If the "fix" is not a 100% cure I'm not going to bother. (1) Mine is not that bad. (2) I've gotten used to it. (3) I am afraid that if I take the car in to "fix" something another thing will get messed up. Better to just leave it.

mine was fixed by the dealer as well, helps but is still there, with the dampers screwed in the clunk is very visible and when they are about half way there is no clunk but a little bit low frequency boom.
i think they should not try and fix it they cannon fix it 100% as is what i thought they could when i took it there!

That trunk rattle

In my case, it started about 3 months ago. It's been driving me crazy!!!
My dealership seemed to know exactly how to fix it and went ahead. When I picked up the car after a full day, the dame rattle is still there! I think they thought it was the trunk lid and some felt was added. But the really bad one seems to come from the rear left somewhere and I cannot figure it out. It sounds like a loose washer somewhere.

I am bringing it in again next week and this time I will drive the car with a technician to make sure they know which rattle I meant. Is there anyone who have this similar rattle?

Other than this, I must say this is the best Porsche I've owned.

The official fix completely eliminated a very bad case of the clunks in my car. The only thing you hear now when going over the types of bumps that caused it before is the suspension of the car and the tire rubber going over the road

it's fixed

Got it fixed last week while getting an oil change ($200). I drove my C from Sacramento to Sanfrancisco this week and I don't hear any significant rattles anymore. No more annoying rattles from the back. Occasionally I still hear humming from the passinger area but it's hardly noticeable. Overall I am satisify with the fix.

I just had what I think is the same chirp/squeak fixed. It is pretty common, comes from the seat belt mount area. Service writer told me it was fixed by adding some felt cloth between the plastic pieces in that area. It's been annoying since day one and is almost strange to be so quiet now.

I just had my dealer perform the trunk clunk fix which involves the installation of a kit. I have not heard any clunk since. Finally! After a year and a quarter of complaining to Porsche and grimacing over many bumps, it's finally resolved.

Thanks for the tip above. I will try to explain to the technician that it may be the seat belt mount area if he does find something else.
Crossing my fingers!!
