Seems like every day I put my keys in my pocket and my trunk pops open. Does this drive anyone else crazy? I've thought about sanding down the ridges on each button. Any thoughts?
Well yeah it drives me crazy. There have been other threads on it a ways back, some seemed to hint at some electronic solution, but I didn't see a follow up to it. I don't think that solution would work very well for me anyway.
I don't think sanding the ridges down would help much for me either.
I was thinking what would be good is to fabricate a sort of flip top metal lid that attached to the section that hold the key on your key ring. When you close it it prevents you from pressing any of the keys. Not something I can make myself anyway.
I've been looking for a small sleek smooth case I can put it in but no luck. When you start to try to find things to put it in, you realize just how ridiculously big this key is.
So for now I've changed my key toting habits such that I put the keys down when I enter the house. This really drives me nuts as I hate not having my keys on me for fear of forgetting them.
Even with all this I have managed to accidentally open my car more times than I have actually driven it. The key is completely ridiculous. I'd sure hope they change the key design some time soon for the sake of future owners.
As shown below, there have been tons of posts on this issue. There are basically two solutions: have dealer program key to require extended depression, or desensitize inside of key.
I had my dealer program the extended holding period when I got my car 5 months ago; I carry both my regular key on a small leather key case, and my spare key loose in my pocket - have not had a problem yet.

Ditto - I just had my dealer reprogram the key activation - it was set on the shortest delay. Depending on which generation PIWIS Tester your dealer has, they can program the key delay from 400 mS (what most of them seem to come from factory with) up to 1100 mS. I had mine increased to the next level (600 mS) and it is less sensitive than before.

PIWIS - Porsche Integrated Workshop Information System
Porsche Integrated Workshop Information System (diagnostic tester) This device is used to test various aspects of your Cayman's computer and electronic systems. These units cost over $12,000 to purchase and are connected to Porsche via a wireless connection at the dealership so that your Cayman's information can be sent to Porsche whenever your car is attached for diagnosis. The PIWIS device has the ability to control almost any system in your car provided that your car has the appropriate control units and programming installed. Your dealership may not perform some activities such as disabling safety equipment.

I think the 08's have the key properly adjusted from the factory as I haven't had any problems with mine whatsoever. Just like AsterixTG I have to hold my buttons down for at least 1 second to open trunks.
I started a thread like this in July. When I asked the service manager about the problem he gave me a blank look. (That's the same kind of look I get whenever I bring up a problem.) I have learned to talk my key out of my pocket and put it on the table as soon as I get home. If I carry the key in my pocket the trunk is going to open or the doors are going to lock.

there is another solution - and one that has worked great for me. one of our sponsors, Mods4Cars has a product called the remote key.
basically their product, once installed, not only sets a delay for trunks, but also can: cause horn to beep upon lock and/or unlock, open windows upon unlock (great for those hot days we're having now), auto move side view mirrors down upon reverse, etc.
something to look into? also see related threads below -
g-luck!
Mods4Cars
Mods4cars was founded in 2002 with the idea to add a highly demanded feature to the otherwise almost perfect Porsche Boxster: Comfort One-Touch roof operation while driving at slow speeds. The resulting product offered not only that, but also allowed quick and easy installation by just swapping out a relay box, thus leaving no traces and no permanent changes on the vehicle. The first smartTOP roof controller was born.

Have him pull the TSB 9662 and give it to his service technician, who probably does know more about it than he does (my service advisor hadn't heard of it either).
BTW, according to the same TSB, they can restore the function that opens the windows with the fob, should you desire.
