Need Help when wheel at lock to lock

I purchased an 06 cayman s last week and I have two questions that I hope someone can help me with.

1. When i turn the wheel completely right or left I get a power steering straining noise. I am assuming that the dealer top of all fluids. Its not severe and I'm thinking it may just be beacause the power steering pump is now right behind my head and I just may be more aware of the noise. Anyone else hear this sound at full wheel lock?

2.When the wheel is completely turned one way or the other and I begin to drive the front tires seem to skip a little. I dont know how to describe it, its as if the tire loses traction for a split second when running over a branch or something at very low speeds.

I have the 19 inch sport design wheels and the tires have 6300 miles on them with plenty of tread left.

Help a guy out. If its normal i'd rather enjoy the car this weekend rather then take it to a dealer after week one.

It's normal....and you will find it is more noticeable when the weather and tires are cold.

You might want to read through the FAQ, in particular the "idiosyncrasies."

Look up Ackerman steering and you should get a good explanation on what it does and why it does it. Suffice to say, its normal.

I was in the exact same postion with an '06 plate I bought 6 weeks ago with the same alloys/tyres. Apparantly its something to do with the tyres when cold are hard on the edges cause a bobbling effect!!!

When they get to their operating temp the bobbling effect goes.

Must admit though iit does concern u when u first experience it.

yeah i agree thanks for the heads up everybody. I agree my heart sank the first time it happened the day after i bought the car. I'm coming from a mustang and a 350z and when that happened all i had visions of quirky porsche problems for the next few years. This website put any of those fears to rest. what an unbelievable resource for people contemplating buying or who have purchased a cayman.

I know i wouldnt have purchased a cayman without having this forum

The power steering whine at full lock is normal for any car and it is not good for the power steering pump. When hitting full lock just ease up a little to avoid fluid cavitation or starvation.
