Soft Touch Plastic

I have had my Cayman now for 4 months and have noticed that some of the soft touch plastic is blistering... On the plastic trim behind the seat... not on the seat but by the engine shelf... the part where the handle is between the two seats. I also have noticed other areas where it has either cracked or scratched on the door panels... Does anyone know if this is covered under warranty? The crack and blistering look like it could be covered under warranty scratches obviously not. I've owned a VW with the same plastic back a while ago. Although it feels nice, it wears poorly. Doesn't help that I have Sand Beige... I notice every little flaw. BTW, I keep the car super clean and baby the thing. The scratches were from the first owner. I treat the interior once a month. Let me know if you have had a similar problem or know anybody that has. TIA, D

BTW... does anyone know how much door panels run? Non-Bose... Non-Full Leather... Sand Beige.

Do you by any chance wear sunscreen or other lotions?

It was discovered long ago (by Boxster owners) that sunscreen is death for soft touch plastics; it will cause the very bubbling, blistering and peeling you're seeing.

Nope... no sunscreen... I live in the NW... we don't see the sun here
Interesting info though

Haven't seen complaints about wax, but in general 986 Boxster owners learned early on not to put anything on it and if anything even vaguely oily got on it to wipe it off as soon as possible.

So should you not put any type of interior dressings or protectants on the plastics? Is there a "safe/not safe" list?

I'm not sure about a safe/unsafe list, but that's been the general guideline for the soft touch plastics in the 986 - just leave them alone.

Some have had luck with water-based products, but I just don't see the need.

I use a damp (water only) microfiber cloth to clean the interior.
