Your dealer should be able to program it so that you have to hold the trunk button down for a few seconds before it i will open. That way if you hit it by accident it will not pop the trunk.

Dealer just told me they can replace the keys a bit (apparently something without the ridge), so its possible that it might get hit less often.

I think its more practical to reprogram than to replace the keys!!

Just to clarify, the key fix kit just came in and it has completely changed the key. Basically, the dealer replaced the buttons on the key-a bit difficult to explain, but essentially the ridge on the key no longer depresses the the button. You now have to put pressure in an indentation to make the key activate.

No more open trunk for me when I return to the car...

(sorry about the poor pic quality)

Did your dealer do this for free? Or how much did this cost you?

Rob,
I'm aware of these cases from my '04 X5. They're still available on eBay but my local BMW store couldn't get them anymore though they did remember them. I do have to say Porsche one upped BMW on stupid sizing of the key. At least with the X5 key you could slip a house key along side the car key. With this case and the Porsche key a house key is a press fit even with the leather being soft. Carrying a second key ring for the house seems silly.

At least Porsche seems to have fixed the hood/trunk popping for '08. A 2 sec press is required from the factory. The door locks pop immediately but relock in 60 sec.

After a couple three weeks of CS ownership I have to say that the key and central locking system if my only real beef. The key is stupid big for anyone without a purse though the size may be an issue even then.

And with the way the locking system is set up a wallet key is impossible. What's wrong with being able to unlock the door with the key in the lock to disable the alarm? Then there is no way to lock the passenger door if the battery goes dead with the car unlocked.

All in all it comes across as a solution to a problem that didn't exist by trying to improve something that worked well already...
