Rattle in the trunk

Since new, I have been getting rattles from the rear hatch area. It occurs on sharp bumps on the road. Finally I got the rubber mallet and started tapping around the trunk and the hatch.

Nothing on the hatch.

There it was right in the middle of the trunk on the floor where there is a bump. When I tapped that area, metal shields underneath the trunk just above the mufllers started squeaking with each tap. The sound varies from a click, similar to a wire hitting to a plastic/metal object to squeaking plastic, metal rattling sound transmitting into the car.

Has anyone encountered it and been able to fix it without a major surgery?

Cheers.

Trunk Clunk?

I don't even want to fathom the number of articles, threads, and posts made about this subject...

Scroll to the bottom of this page and click on those similar topics to see if what you have is the same problem.

I had the same kind of noise, but after 3 months of searching, I finally located the noise is from the curtain hits the side of the aluminum cover in the trunk. always have small "****,****" noise.
I removed the curtian in the hatch, drive the car and the noise is gone, even I go on uneven pavement road with speed small speed bump.
Please try this and see if the noise is gone away!
I hope this helps!

If it's the higher part of the rear trunk (over the engine) I had the same problem (clicky squeaky rattle sound) and cured it by levering up the carpet and jamming some foam rubber in there.

If it's the lower part you'll probably have to do the same. Try taking the covers off either side (as if you were changing rear bulbs) and see if you can lift the carpet, then jam some foam rubber under there.

Good luck!

blueyes, yes that is the exact place I am getting the squeaks from, the high part. How did you pry out the carpet, If I use a plastic pry bar from the edges will it come out and then it can be pushed back in?
