Question AC has a mind of its own?!

I hope someone can help on this (any exorcists here?!)

I have the auto climate control, but I noticed that it seems to have a mind of its own, recently, each time I start the car it is turned on (restoring the saved settings) Which really annoys me, especially since I need to turn it off so that I can warm the engine up first.

Any Ideas??!

maybe turn the auto off or actually turn off the AC before you get out of the car

I do that of course, I never turn the engine off without first shutting down the AC

How are you shutting down the AC?

There are two ways to 'turn off the AC' with the automatic climate control.
  1. Press the ECO button (A/C OFF on 08+ models). This simply turns off the A/C compressor and breaks the auto cycle.
  2. Press the fan speed down all the way, then press it one more time. This turns the Auto Climate control off for good. If you are doing this, it should not come back on when you restart the car until you reactivate it by pressing 'Auto' of any other button.
At first read, it sounds like you have knocked it out of automatic mode. If it is in automatic mode, it would automatically wait for few minutes when you restart.

My suggestion, stop turning the A/C off before turing the car off, or use method 2.

+1... Number 2 is the only way that I have found to actually turn off the whole system. Turn the fan all the way down and then push it down one more time until it reads "OFF". When ever I start the car up after that, the climate control system stays off until I switch it back to auto.

I appreciate the help, I always use method 2, all the way down then one more time till it displays off. The thing is, even if I changed the settings (temp for example) it reverts to the saved settings when I turn on the car. Strangely though, it only started doing that in those last couple of days when its too hot that I usually use the AC at some point of the trip!

Why is this an issue?

With every car I've ever had with auto climate control you set a temp and never touch the controls again.

Engine cold or warm, exterior or interior temps cold or warm, it does the right thing.

That's sort of the point, actually…

Well but when you're just starting the car and planning to drive top down, it can be annoying to turn it off everytime.

Anyway, I unchecked the Climate Control Memory button in PCM settings, and it still didnt happen. Perhaps its time to re-read the manual.

Took a hacksaw to your Cayman, did you?

Besides, even with the top down on a Boxster, I let the AC blow - it was a nice cool breeze.

Well, sort of. When you activate the front defogger the compressor comes on. But if you manually open the windshield vent it may or may not depending on tempurature.

I guess my car came with the 'special' auto climate control unit because I absolutely love the way mine works. I've never had a car with a more 'set it and forget it' climate control.
