No Santa Fe, this is not a modification issue, my car in factory stock form had this problem when first run at speed on tight corners on the track on street tires, I even did it once on a cloverleaf entrance ramp where I was on the gas and exploring the grip limits of the car. This problem has nothing to do with modifications, lend me your keys and I will happily show you.
Curious your and my VINS are close and I have driven lots of tight corners at speed with no smoke (yet). Luck?
I am on board with the idea but think that we nedd to also offer PCA a way out other than the $3k fix..maybe credit towards merchandise .50 cents on the dollar. Good luck.
I'm sure you mean PCNA, and I would not settle for anything less than a fix on their dime. Lets think of it as preventing possible damage to the engine, and anyone behind the smoking car that can't see. Only because we love our Porsche cars so much are we willing to stand by them while they take care of this known issue.
I believe this error is 100% on PCNA's part, having designed a car that can or can't handle so well that the "dry sump wanna be" can't do a dry sump job. Integrated dry sump doesn't mean that oil shall be integrated into our spark plugs, cats, headers, sensors and so on.

I will have to check my VINs, but I have not observed any smoking on track or AX, but I do occasionally get it in my driveway.
What I have observed is that if I start the car from cold, simply to move it to a different stall in the garage, I get a pretty big cloud of white smoke if I start it again shortly thereafter, say to move it back.
This is repeatable behavior, and I have not observed any smoke otherwise. Surely this is a completely different set of circumstances than that which is prompting the petition.

You're right - that is a recognized characteristic of boxer engines, because some oil collects in the horizontal cylinders when the engine stops, and then burns off when you restart the engine. The petition deals with the oil ingestion related to high lateral g-forces (which, I haven't experienced first hand on the track either - *knock on wood*).

Caygril are you sugesting to PCA that you want them to give us the $3000 fix or is there something else that could be compromised on. I say this because it does not seem realistic that they will take you up on the $3000 fix and in all negotiations each side needs to have a backup point of settlement. I have not had a problem with my car and I do DE at the same courses that you frequent but for now I have not had the problem, but I also have an extended oil pan but not sure if that has helped out in my case. I have signed the petition so I am on board with the idea but think that we nedd to also offer PCA a way out other than the $3k fix..maybe credit towards merchandise .50 cents on the dollar. Good luck.
No, not suggesting a fix - they have far more expertise than I have and can come up with a good solution. We have petitioned Porsche AG - the Porsche car maker. PCA is Porsche Club of America which sponsors DEs, etc - they are NOT being petitioned. Porsche AG builds the best cars on the planet! They just have a problem with our engine and need to fix it. Thanks for signing.

From what I understand, the $3000 number is mainly the labor involved in installing a 2-chamber Porsche Motor Sport oil separator that was designed for a 996. The price of the part is $518 (according to the install article) and the rest involves the PITA all-day labor installing the part. Perhaps Porsche could redesign the oil separator and give us a new 2-chamber model that takes 10 minutes to bolt in.

Porsche engines use oil. That is a known fact. However, having said that, we should be able to drive our STOCK Cayman any way we want without excessive oil consumption. If Porsche knew of this problem, SHAME ON PORSCHE. If we choose to modify our car, in any way, that car becomes OUR car and it is OUR responsibility. If we create a problem, SHAME ON US.
What may carry more weight than a petition to Porsche AG would be to get the NHTSA involved. If the people who have experienced this problem (I haven't yet, despite doing DE's and Auto-X's) files a complaint with the NHTSA they may be prompted to launch a defect investigation which would require that Porsche provide detailed information on what they know about the problem. The web site for making a complaint is:
The process takes a few minutes. The more consistent the description of the problem everyone has the more likely it is that the NHTSA will take notice.
