I must admit, that the smoke issue was one of the primary things that almost kept me from buying my Cayman S. I was already having a tough time swallowing the price increase over the Boxster S, and this issue killed the rationalization that this was a more enthusiast-focused car.

From what I READ in this post it is also happening to people OFF THE TRACK.

If the problem leads to an engine failure there is a possibility (remote) that a safety problem could exist.

anyone from PCA hear any word from their officers? I heard PCA has connections with Porsche and may be able to get this petition in front of someone who matters over seas.

That's just it - no one can prove a problem that endangers the engine.

One post did state they saw the issue on a cloverleaf when:

Quote:
exploring the grip limits of the car
So the fix is simple for Porsche; they'll ship the car with all-weather tires or others that reduce the amount of road grip - the g-forces required for oil ingestion can't be created if the stock tires don't adhere as strongly to the road, and NHTSA cares not what happens to the car if you've modified it.

I'm sure that they won't. I wrote to them in September 2006 about a safety issue with a child safety seat. I received one letter from them and then nothing.
This is an emissions problem but not a safety problem. Perhaps a recall is necessary to fix this problem. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for help from the government.

You'd be surprised at how the government works or doesn't work.

Just to be clear....The Boxsters have the same PCV system and exhibit this problem. This problem was first noticed in the 986 Boxsters and continues to exist today.

One would think that Porsche AG might want to respond to this excessive oil injestion problem as a POLLUTION problem.

Not only spewing more oil, carbon et al. into the air but wasting resources!
