Security Lockdown

Yesterday I had what appears to be a reoccurance of a problem that delayed my delivery of my CS back in 2006. The first time my car was being prepped by the dealer and it had a low battery. They were not able to get the car to accept the electronic codes for the keys with the Porsche CAN bus thing. They had to call Germany and get an unlock code - was fine for 2 years. Yesterday I took my car out for a spin after A few weeks of business travel. It cranked a little slowly but fired right up. I drove about 45 miles, got gas - cranked like new. I took it to the local shop for minor maintenance
and the battery died. They put it on a charger but no joy after that. Won't start car alarm goes off, ignition does not come on, does not crank. Only dash indicators are odometer, elapsed miles, temp. Remote does not work, tried the relearning procedures - no joy. Wife drives second key up as Porsche service is "certain" the second key will work. No joy - exactly the same symptoms. Do anything and the alarm goes off. It quits after 30 sec or so. Any clues? I'm sure going to do the battery maintainer after this. It will be towed to the dealer tomorrow to see what is up.

Sure sounds like a weak battery. Just short driving will not charge it especially if was re-started several times. Hopefully you don't have to replace it. They are sort of expensive. Do start using the battery maintainer to prevent those (un)expected failures. Porsche Roadside service lists battery failure as the number one call they get.

Thanks. So far they suspect the shop that gave me a boost hooked up the cables backwards (ouch) blowing a fuse, a relay and the immobilizer (key RFID reader) module. All replaced and now a CEL. I suspect they will flash the ECU tomorrow and see if it goes away. I asked that they check the alternator and battery. I ordered two maintainers ( I have a Cayenne also) today from SunCoast. Painful lesson. More as the saga unfolds.

Ok - all better now. Not too bad either other than the loss of my ride for 6 days. The dealer gave me the benefit of the doubt and covered the repair under warranty. Porsche roadside assistance did a great job not damaging a non operational car, Len Stoler fit me in and got me back on the road. Important message - don't let your battery go dead.
