Unhappy Idle Problems

Has anyone had an issue after pulling up the car, it returns to idle but then losers the idle resulting in a drop by a couple of hundred revs and then it recovers?

It has happened from the day I bought the car, but only once every couple of days of driving.

Porsche found, after two days of having the car, that when it occured there was a strange intake temp reading. They replaced the air mass sensor and reset the computer, and it was fine for about a week and then it started again.

They have since not been able to replicate the problem.

They wont send the data of to Germany because I have had a Milltek full system since I bought the car, and Germany will most likely void all warranty.

Can anybody help?

Geoff.

Why do you believe that this is a significant problem?

Perhaps a complete false trail but did they do an intake leak check?

I had a similar issue with a 944 a while back. Visually everything was fine but there was a crack in an elbow feeding into the intake after the mass flow sensor. Engine movement would open and close this randomly. It was most noticeble at idle with symptoms much like you describe. Otherwise the engine management system pretty well masked it until it got bad enough for it to throw a sensor fault.

I guess you could just refit the OEM system in order to move forward even though its not going to be relavent in reality.
Try the intake check as suggested by Greywolf, at least that is easier to do.

Unfortunately I swapped the original system for the Milltek which was on my Boxster S, before I sold it so the refit is an expensive option.
I will get them to check the intake for leaks though. Thanks.
I am not sure if this is related or not but twice I have cold started the car and the engine speed went up to where it normally does and then the engine dies as if the ignition was cut.

My 944 would do that kind of thing too. As a WAG I think it was going from open to closed loop fuel scheduling that it happened. I don't know what in an exhaust would do this. Could one of the O2 sensors or cables been damaged on the install?
