You can set a limit alert when you reach a certain speed, such as 55 or 70. Perhaps you or someone else accidentally turned this on for 9mph which would get rather irritating.
I accidentally turned mine on when I was first trying to figure out how to navigate thru the instrument panel info display - had been set at 30 mph - by the dealer I guess. (Now it's set at 110 )

The default is evidently 150 mph - my boy sent me an excited e-mail about it. He thought it was so cool to see this big 150 in a circle AND hear the alarm. Thanks for the info, because I'll tell him it can be changed and most likely have to do it for him.
This is a standard feature on most German cars, mostly meant to set a winter tire speed limit for Autobahn driving. As you do not want to exeed the speed posted on your winter tires, and this is only likely on Autobahns...
On my Passat it is actuall called Winter Tire Alarm, it too reading the manual to understand what they meant.

Apologies for spelling mistakes, most of them are keyboarding errors. To enjoy this forum I run out of time to proof read.
It's not a PCM Limit - these are definitely set to the default 30,50 and 70 settings.
I've been through all the PCM menus I can find now, and am getting rather fed up of a beep every time I pull away from the lights!
I have a visit booked at my local dealer tomorrow morning to take a look at it. But I'm worried they'll charge me the earth to switch it off! The car is 2 and a half years old.
Your visit should be free. I went to the dealer to have my rear wing hydraulics deactivated and my trunk clunk looked at and I was not charged for anything.
Your dealer is going to be friendly and helpful. Nothing to fear.
+1 - I agree with JCay - if it's something simple, they'll more than likely do it for free - if it's something wrong, then they'll fix it under warranty... the overwhelming number of dealers are friendly, helpful folks.

I discovered this on my ride home from the dealership when I picked my car. The car was beeping incessantly with "Limit 35", but otherwise ran smoothly. I had no idea what it was, but endured it over the 85 mile drive home, worried there might be something wrong with my brand new car. smounic and Ken quickly put my mind at ease by explaining the source of the problem and how to fix it. I think the mechanic probably set it during the pre-delivery inspection, and forgot to turn it off.
I wish there was a way to get an audible alert when the tachometer crosses a defined RPM range. It would be useful to have a RPM alert set at a high enough level to let you wind up the engine, but still give you enough warning so you don't inadvertently plant the needle in the redline zone.

Turns out there's a Limit setting you can make using the stalk, which only shows up on the dashboard screen. It's not visible on the central computer screen at all.
I must have knocked the stalk whilst parking or something, and enabled and set the limit to 9mph!
Identified and sorted in 5 minutes by the dealer. Ahem.
I've got to say, I am really impressed with my Porsche salesman.
Besides allowing me to shop in peace, and searching for a Cayman S that fit my wants, he really knew the car in incredible detail. He knew my trade in as well in quite a lot of detail. He knew about all the options and their prices more or less from memory. When I bought the CS he did a great job of going over all kinds of details including this one (the speed warning limiter), we set up the Homelink, he showed me around the various quirky "features", even little things like how to fold in the mirrors. I really can't say enough good things about him.
