Steering Creek

Anyone have a steering creek noticeable at low speeds (driver's side)? If so, what was the problem in your case? What was done to fix it? My dealer can't seem to appreciate the sound that they are able to hear.

Sounds like you have a normal condition if you hear this when turning the wheels sharply. See the FAQ here: The Cayman Club - FAQ: Indiosyncrasies and the several similar threads about this as well.

Doesn't occur with sharp turns, but with small angles of steering input.

Hi DMK, I think I have the same thing, it sounds like a cable stretching to me. I was at the dealer for an engine service light and the Service Manager heard it "herself" and came back and said it was some sort of a bearing on the the leftside went bad, needed to order it and then have the car aligned. The part hasn't come in yet or they haven't called me yet but I will call them tomorrow and report back their findings once replaced.

Curious. I am going to have the car serviced for this issue tomorrow. I will post the problem and fix.

Steering Creek repaired

I posted about a creek heard from the left from corner while making small changes in steering angle at 1-5 miles per hour. The problem was a faulty left front strut mount bearing.

As opposed to the initial responses, this is not a normal sound.
