Interior Smell

I have a new Cayman but it has that old car smell. Hard to describe. Like old radiator water/coolant or an old Mercedes interior. Is it just the plastics/adhesives used AND I'm curious if anyone else has similar opinion/experience

Truly do not know of what you speak. My CS smelled great at delivery and remains that way 2 months later.

The smell you're complaining about is called Cosmoline. It is sprayed on the underside of the car when it leaves the factory to protect the underside from corrosion during transit. It burns off eventually usually within the first few thousand miles. Do a search on 'Cosmoline' and read some of the past threads on the subject. There are also some threads on how to clean it off, especially inside the wheels.

Bottom line is that it's totally normal and nothing to worry about. The best way to be rid of it is to go out and drive.

Does it smell kinda like burnt oil/plastic or does it smell kinda like mildew?

If it's burnt oil/plastic, then it's the cosmoline burning off, like previously mentioned.

If, however, it smells a little like mildew, try checking the passenger foot well area for dampness. Someone had water collecting down there, and it turned out there was a problem with their a/c condensate drain*. Once it was fixed, the water and the mildew went away.

*The problem was caused by an electronics installer that messed with the hose while installing some new gear.
