Closing the rear bonnet

When I close the rearbonnet I normally pull it down with enough force for it to go all the way... now here's where one of two things happens:

1) 90% of the time: the lid goes all the way down and stops as it reaches the end, then you have to PUSH it shut.

2) 10% of the time: the lid closes fully and there's no need to push it shut!!!

I spoke the the porsche dealer here and they had no idea whether it is designed so that it shuts on its own from the downward force as it travels down... or whether it is designed so that you have to give it the final push to shut it.

It pisses me off that I have to push it shut most of the time... especially ifthe car isdusty or wet... you get your hands dirty.

Can you guys check your cars and let me know how yours work?

Cheers,

Zuksh

i bet that 90% of the time both driver/passenger doors are closed and 10% of the time one of them is open...

for those 90% times i just push down with both hands to close it fully

You should be pushing down and locking both the front and the back lids by using your hands on the edge closest to the lock which will be the strongest part of the lid. That is the correct way of closing them.

unpollo2 is correct. If your driver (or passenger) door is open, the air pressure will allow the rear hatch to close on its own. However, when the doors are shut, the air pressure doesn't allow it to close.

I don't know what bonnet means here. When I took delivery the salesperson went out of his way to say that the back will close in one motion. The front never will according to him. He said get it to its intilial lock position and then push down with two hand the rest of the way. All of that has worked perfectly for me.

My salesman said the samething as namyac's did, saying the front will never close on it's own. You must push it once it latches the first time.

I wastalking about the REAR one. I know the front one always needs final push it lock it in place.

I think the explanation of whether the door / window is open or not is the key here. When the doors / windows are closed, you have to SLAM it to get it to close... while when a door or window is open, the force doesn't have to be as big and it would shut at slower speeds... having said that... I think to avoid screwing it up in the long run, I'm gonna stick to pushing it shut from now on :-)

I guess this thread is closed.

I have owned several Porsches. The compartment lids, whether trunk, engine, hatchback, gas flap or whatever, have never closed without pushing on the latch. The Cayman rear hatch does, when a window or door is open; but that is the exception.

Just lower the lid gently, until it is nearly closed and press over the latch. Don't hit, strike, slam, or otherwise force the issue ...
