First Distance Drive/two problems

The wife and I just drove the Cayman to Dallas from Kansas City. I had never really used the airconditioner before this trip but was surprised when half way to Dallas turned on the ac and got nothing! Called Porcshe roadside and got a schedule visit with Park Place In Dallas upon our arrival. They checked the system and claimed it only had 0.8 lbs refrigerant and should have had1.8lbs They corrected it in less than two hours and we were on our way It has worked great since. Their service was terrific! On the return run turned on the Radio (Bose) and got nothing. no CD no radio. Back to the KC dealer next morning and the system had frozen and needed the software reinstalled. another hour and a half. Aggravating , but the service has been great from both dealers. From a performance standpoint the Cayman ran great , mileage was 26.7 for the trip and the odometer has now just crossed three thousand miles. We were able to get it close to 140 through theFlint Hills for a very brief run with ano carsin sight/clear sky Freeway. What fun.

How were you able to get 26.7 MPG? Is the road to Dallas a straight shot on flat land? Are you running cruise control at 65MPH in 6th gear?

The BEST I have had on a normal drive was 22MPG. And that happened when I cleared the registers while AT speed. And I stayed in 6th, damn near lugging the car!!

I just got back from a Phx. - San Diego round trip. I've got a Tip, ran with cruise at 83mph in Az and 77 in Ca with a couple of 100+ short runs and a fast run up the mtns going west. Got 22.3 mpg West bound, 22.0 mpg eastbound. Best ever 24.5 running freeways at 65mph, worst 12.2 on the track.

Most of the trip was run in sixth on cruise at 78 and yes I-35 is mostly flat and straight. Note that this is the very best mileage I have gotten though typically have averaged 20-21. All freeway driving.

That is awesome mileage and sorry to hear about the two glitches.

I have 2500 miles on my car, 1450 on the trip-meter and averaging 14.9 MPG. Hmm...I wonder why that is??

You know I drive fairly 'spirited' but I don't do stop and go and I'm getting23+ mpg. Is frequent stop and go that costly?

YES! It's funny. I joke with my friends that 'I get better gas mileage the faster I go...' In reality, it's true. When my average mph is over 60, I can easily attain 22-24mpg. Around town, when my average mph is under 50, my mileage is usually in the 17-19mpg range.

The best I've gotten was close to 28mpg on a 'short' 250 mile trip from PA to VA. During the rest of that trip (down and back to FL) my total average was right around 25mpg!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that on my highway driving, I put the cruise on 75mph and usually find a couple of 'bursts' over 90mph every so often to get away from congestion. So it's not like I'm 'bogging' it down in 6th gear

Rick,

Sorry to hear about the problems, glad they got it worked out. Missed you at the track! BTW, I got 27.2 MPG on our recent Ozarks trip, maybe its that air intake mod we have...

K-man another point you bring up is the snorkel mod. We hit heavy rain from Emporia all the way back into KC (ca 100 miles)with roughly 15 miles of I-35 down to two way traffic on one side lots of eighteen wheelers and closely confined traffic. Those who might be concerned the snorkel mod may allow rain into the air intake can relax It has been through a Midwest gully washer with no problems.

Geez, I'm with Devo on this one. You guys must have delicate throttle feet. Devo, maybe we forgot to take off the parking brake or something... at least that's my story and I'm stickin' to it...
