Electrical Gremlins !!!!!

Hi all. I have 3500 miles on my cayman. Yesterday while driving along at 30mph I heard a beep and my PASM failed. The warning said PASM failure! Now the car is locked into track suspension mode. Also my airbag light is on full time just prior to this. In addition my stereo has a mind of its own. It wont turn on ...then it turns on and wont turn off, it won't let me adjust the volume either or switch back and forth to cd. I don't know about the rest of you but electrical gremlins in a car like this is a real headache. My 01 boxster had no issues in 4 years none. My 04 GT3 had no warranty issues in 2 years either. Anybody have similar issues?

With that many things going wrong at the same time - (and this is just a guess) it could be your battery is about to go. When the battery gets under a certain voltage, all kinds of things don't work properly, and there have been reports of bad batteries on the board. Take it to the dealer, it shouldn't take them long to figure it out (famous last words).

GMUND,

Really sorry to hear of your electrical troubles. However, it was good to meet you the other day.

Good call Beez. It could very well be the battery. I've had instances (not inmy Porsche) where my car's electronics acted very strangely. My batter had a very low voltage and had to be replaced. This is the first thing I'd check. Any Autoparts store (Autozone/Pepboys) will check your battery for free (check amps and volts).

GMUND,

I too had a large number of electrical glitches (keys often not opening the front and rear hatches, check engine light on and off, passenger air bag showiung disabled all the time). The dealer ran the diagnostic CD and got 30 pages of error codes! It took the dealer two weeks of consultation with Porsche to find and fix the problem. First they replaced the bus module (no joy) and then replaced the key module (still not apparently fixed, but they then noticed that bus module was not programmed for a Cayman with my options - thought it had a Targa top (911 apparently uses the same module). Finally they reprogrammed the module with updated software (which was a story in itself !) and everything is now perfect.

Good luck with yours,

Charles
