Anybody noticed a Subsonic noise thats results from driving over bumps or rough roads?


Its a sort of super low thump sound that can be a bit uncomfortable on the ears at times. If you wind down the window/s by about 50mm+ it pretty well goes away.


My theory is that this is a design defect in that the cabin is too air pressure tight. When you go over a bump the rear hatch panel moves up and down (modulates) a bit on the rubber seal (or flexes). This creates a very low freq pressure wave that presses on the ear drums. Opening the windows allows the pressure to escape. This is also confirmed in that closing the rear hatch with the windows up compared to down is a lot harder and you get a woosh of air at the hatch sides. Am I being to picky?

Thanks for that. It seems that thread and my comments are very closelyrelated. I dont get any actual bump or clunk sound, just the pressure problem. As mine is only 3 days old, I figure I have all the latest mods. Iguess this is in the too hard basket and production continues regardless...urgh.Toyotasolved that problemyears ago with the older model 1991 oddCelica.I'll call my dealer later.
