<div>At speeds above 55 my passenger side mirror starts making a whistling sound and continues to get loader as speeds increase to the point i cant hear my stereo. Brought it back to the dealer and they ran a PET test and said it needed some silicone and they took care of it..... I don't think so!!! been back 2 times again and still not fixed. i have had 3 Porsche mechanics in the car with me to hear this god awful whistling so i know I'm not crazy. Any other cayman owners experienced this problem??</div>
I have not noticed the mirror whistle. I did in a previous Porsche (951) and I found out just where it was coming from by putting some electrical tape over the joints that allow the mirror to swivel. Then I stucka small piece ofblack putty (the kind that never gets hard) in the joint. I figured, if the joint ever needed to movwe the putty would not stop it, and it did eliminate the wind noise. I even forgot I had done that and, although I no longer have thatcar, it fixed the noise so completely I had forgotten about it until your post.
My Cayman just started a little noise, a slight metallic jingle, at the rear end of the dirver's side window. It is only present when the window is down, going away when the glass just emerges from the rear track. It sounds like a loose micro-switch or something. Has anyone else detected a noise like this? I just started a few days ago so, if it is something like this, it might indicate a window position sensor getting loose (I hope not since it would be a bear to convince my dealer's service that it is worth taking the door apart to locate).

The wind whistle is common to the 997 and 987 platforms, and I'm surprised we haven't heard about this earlier on the Cayman since 987 Boxsters have it. What needs to be done is either have your side mirror tightened up - taken apart put back together, or an easier fix is to get a piece of clear bra film and place it over the inside seam on the side mirrors, that area between the mirror and window where the plastic parts come together there is a plastic seam, the air rushing over that seam can cause a whistle.
My passenger side mirror does the whistling as well, but i have yet to do anything about it. It only happens above 55mph when the window is open. I had a friend put his finger on the seam between the mirror and the body of the car and the sound goes away.

Yeah same here, when i had the Porsche mechanic in the car thats exactly what he did. Put his finger on the seam and it goes away..take it off and right back. Very frustrating. I'll figure something out.
I've got a whistle (sounds like it coming from the passenger side front wheel) that starts in the low 40's and disappears after 65 MPH. I'm taking a ride with the service mechanic next week to try to resolve it.
The mirror whistling is an engineered feature designed to keep the deer from running in front of your Cayman S. The base Cayman doesn't go fast enough to make the noise. (Joking on both) LOL
