When I turn on the radio I get the usual 'PORSCHE' but then it never switches on completely so none of the buttons or knobs work and I get no sound. All I can do is turn it on and off.
I couldn't find a radio reset in the manual. Any suggestions?

The exact same think happened to my friend's radio in his 05 Boxster yesterday. Apparently this is a very common problem with the radio unit in the 987's (including the Cayman's). You'll probably need a new radio. The good news is that it's covered under warantee.

Maybe the Ipod is better than nothing, but I tried mine in the car and it robs you of the experience of hearing the sound of the car. I have found a nice medium when listening to CD's as to where I can still enjoy the engine and exhaust note.
I had my Cayman in for the LATCH install and when I picked it up, the same thing happened. Fortunately, I just pulled right back into the service bay. They tried to re-set the system by turning the key in the lock three times - that didn't work. The tech ended up doing a 'new delivery re-boot' where it brought all settings back to the original delivery configuration. That ended up fixing it and I haven't had the problem since.
I did hear this was a common problem but hopefully the fix for yours is as easy as it was for mine.
i had the same problem on my 911. All i did was switch off the engine and restart it.....worked fine after that. Please let us know what the dealer says
Apparently the battery power got below a certain level and the radio thinks it's been stolen. The car sat for about a week but it did start so I didn't think there was battery problem. I guess it is a bit sensitive.
Anyway, the dealer just plugged in their computer and that cleared it!

Depending on your 911's model year, there is also an issue that existed with the CDR 23 and Bose where it would do the same thing (hang on the 'Porsche' display) but was resetable by turning the car off and back on, as you did. The fix is to have the Bose Aux Amp replaced; it should be a warranty bulletin issue.

I think this is nuts - a car that can't sit for a week without draining the battery Would be nice to see what the load is for different modes ie. car locked, car unlocked. I keep my car unlocked in a garage, and would hope the load would be small, but until measured that can only be a speculation. My car will be put away for the winter, so I will have to make sure to plug in a charger.
