Do any of you Early /Current Purchasers have Map pockets on your seat backs?
My newly delivered Cayman S arrived without them.
My experience of purchasing in the UK was very one sided, Full list price, No Discount, one sided contract with penalties, I also had to agree to a 1.8% price increase, if they delayed delivery until MY07 production (Delivered 15th July - so no price increase) Lots of stories of Porsche benefits / extras (OK the car arrived with Floor mats and 2 key rings, Number plates and a tank of Gas -Expensive here in the UK) I only found out about the included Porsche Driving Experience through this website (Value 500 Pounds I believe) I had to particularly ask about it (now booked for the 10th August - Yippee!) But overall for some other reasons the wrong end of an abusive relationship.
The Seat map pockets were listed in the Porsche Car Configurator, (still are) and as I am only 5'7'' and my Wife 5'0' there was plenty of space to access them. I do not have SatNav and am of an age where Maps are well understood. I did not want maps lying around (Flying around on the quicker bends) cluttering up the car.
I pointed this out upon delivery and this was the reply I got:-
' ..The map pocket was removed as a running change to the product content during MY06 Model Year.
The rationale behind this decision was due to the 'dead space' located behind the seat and in-front of the bulkhead. It was decided that this feature would be removed due to the lack of access to the pocket and therefore not providing the functional aspect that any feature of the car should.
The internet configurator and the PVA system will be updated with this information when the MY07 data is switched on at the end of July'.
I replied that if Porsche deemed that the map pockets contracted to be supplied were superfluous functionality, perhaps to take the principle a step further I should not be surprised that in the future Cayman S deliveries would be witha 1.3 litre 95HP engine - as the legal speed limit in the UK is 70 mph and more horsepower would be un-necessary!
I further claimed breach of contract.................
The Result?
A nice talk with Andrew, the Product manager for Porsche GB who offered the first service (360 pounds UK) free of charge or goods from the Tequipment range. (Still weighing up the possibilities...)
My first Porsche, a super drive, and still some way to go to total satisfaction. Also the problem of a cluttered cockpit, or map under the passenger seat syndrome. Maybe I will get a NavMan system?
Full leather, no map pockets, none expected, couldn't use them if I had them. Buy a Garmin Nuvi and forget about maps
I looked for a GPS thread by searching for GPS, but didn't find what I remembered seeing, so I'll drop this in here. I was looking for a GPS and saw someone else'srecommendation for the Nuvi (by Garmin). It not only has GPS, but MP3 player, picture viewer, and other bells and whistles, which are of no interest to me. The unit seems very nice, however. But the Garmin Street Pilot 330 has the same maps, screen size, GPS fuctions, and navigation interfaces as the Nuvi, but for hundreds less (e.g. Megagps.com, $410). I have ordered one and will mount it so it can be shifted between our two cars. If anyone wishes, I will write a performance report after I have a week or so to play with it. I have had at least four marine GPS units, but their navigation problems are quite different from what one needs in an automobile.
If this was a 'running change' it was very early. Or perhaps a UK to US variation? Mine (1679) delivered 12 January has no map pockets in seat backs. Do have them in '98 Boxster.
Get everything you agree in writing! Even if it means that you write them a letter stating along the lines....
'As agreed by (name) who was acting on behalf Porsche (Centre Name) the first service for my Cayman (Reg#) will be carried out free of chargeetc... ' sign the letter and hand it to them
Personally I would take a techequipment suitcase instead... as your service may be in a few years time by which anything could have happened... (a bird in the hand....)
Dealers have been trained to lowball you by promising all types of things and then taking them away when you have your car - dealers usually hope that now you have the car they delay promises so long that you dont care anymore.
I didnt realise about the map pockets as I have teh PCM, I can understand how annoying it is that theyve been ommitted if you were looking forward to having them.
Hmmm. What if I order the Fire Extinguisher (which is located in a drawer under the driver's seat), and then remove the fire extinguisher and keep my MAPS in that drawer.
Wont maps fit in the arm rest pockets in the door? My seats are practically pinned to the bulkhead, so seatback pockets would be crushed. I agree with the bird in the hand advice above.
