finally found my rattle

my car has a rattle that has been driving my crazy. it took me weeks to figure out where it is was coming from. i read all the threads with rattle complaints but none matchedmy rattle. once the car has become warm (i live in florida so it doesn't take long) i would hear a rattle from around the passenger headrest and small storage compartment behind the passenger seat. the rattle happens when i hit any patch of road that is not smooth. even the slightly elevated white lines in front of street lights are enough to make the rattle. i first thought it was the passenger seat like another thread mentioned but i could not get it to go away with any seat adjustment. i could not make the rattle go away by messing with the storage compartment either.

finally, i found that if i hold or push the part of the car that nestles against the vertical part of the passenger window that it was gone. i do not know of any specific name for this part of the car. i also can kind of hear it when closing the passenger door.

anyone else have this rattle and had it fixed? any thoughts on fixing it myself? the closest dealer is one hour away.

I have had a rattle like this on the driver side for about 1500 miles. I had the driver interior door panel removed and reinstalled 3 times but that did not take care of the problem. We finally managed to isolate it to the trim piece that surrounds the interior of the door opening, that transitions to the roof liner. If you knock on the plastic piece it sounds like something is loose inside. My part is on backorder because my interior and the trim piece is Cocoa. A black trim piece was readily available.

esaam and john,

I have a rattle associated with the window (being up or down). Mine is on the driver's side. When the window is all of the way down I hear a small rattle as I go over bumps that disappears if I raise the window up enought that the glass just passes the rear rubber guide (about 1/2 way up). At first I thought it might be associated with the seat belt mechanism but I never hear it when the window is all of the way up and it should be even more noticable then since outside noises are eliminated, but it goes away when I raise the window! This may or may not be the same thingyou heard. It is not too loud but it's annoying. Ihave done some pressingaround the rubber window guides on the door but no luck. I think it may be internal to the door (perhaps a loose microswitch that senses the window position of something like that). If any of this seems similar to what either of you, or anyone else, has experienced please let me know.

Bang on the 3' wide plastic liner at the top of the door opening. If you hear a rattle you have my problem. My rattle occurs even when the window is closed.

I just bought my Cayman S about two weeks ago. Everything seems to be fine except I hear a high pitched squeak or chirp anytime I hit a rough patch of road on city or highway coming from the driver's side.. I've tried adding a little oil around the rubber components along the door and window but to no avail. I am taking it to the dealer on next Tuesday for them to take a look at, but I fear that they won't find anything. Any advice on what I can do?

I have something on the right side, and as suggested it happens on a warm day - the only conclusion would be that it had to be a part that expands itself, or something that becomes loose because whatever is holding it has expanded and created a gap - in my case I think it is the A-pillar plastic cover.

I got fooled by the passenger seat - in rear-most position it rubbed on the door/trim - Squeak got worse when cranking a right-hander turn, and when a heavier person was sitting in it. SOLVED - by moving seat a few millemeters forward!

Hi Buckeyes,

I think I have the same problem.... not big but can be quite annoying... what was the fix from your dealer?
