Check Engine Light

The first CEL illuminated with a total of150 miles on the car. Took it in on a Saturday, whereupon they indicated it was emissions related. Cleared, and said to bring it back in if it comes on again. It did, and the diagnosis was an 'Internal open tank lead diagnosis module, Fault P1486 per TSB'. So it is a known problem, and they are ordering me a new ECM.

They also found out that the second key and spare, which did not work, were another Cayman's-oops. And they had to order additional owner materials, which were not included in my 'packet', and this could take a couple of months-crikey.

No real complaints, as both the salesman and I were trying to get the deal done before Finance vetoed it, so dealer prep was a quick wash. The dealership is on the way to work, and I get to drive a Cayenne.

Just an FYI for posterity, as there is a TSB on this issue.

I also have had a 'check engine' problem. The first time I took it in, they couldn't find anything, and reset the light. I suggested in might have to do with the catalytic converter, because I recall K-man mentioning that he had that problem. The day after I got the car back, the 'check engine' light came on again. Today, I took the car in a second time. This time they did diagnose it as the catalytic converter, saying that there was a problem with the sensors communicating. They've ordered the parts, and I'll need to take it in again.

K-man, is this the same problem you ran into? Any others with similar problems, or other diagnoses like the one in the earlier posting with the engine management system?

Yep, I had both pre-cats and manifolds replaced at around 1900 miles. Now at 5000 miles and no problems since.

Thanks guys, this explains the TSB, though it seems from gatorman that I have a few more trips destined in my future.
