Dash Lights Fading In & Out

This has happened to me a few times now and not sure why, but whey I turn my lights on, sometimes my dash lights come on, other times they dont. Sometimes after driving for a while they will turn themselves off then turn back on again later.

Has anyone else ran into this on their car?

Jason

They only come on if the ambient light inside the cabin falls below a certain level.

There is a sensor in the left hand dial of the instrument cluster that controls the brightness of the dash lights, Depending on how the light hits that the dash lights will fade and come back.

This is the dash autodim feature. At dusk and dawn where the outside light intensity is near the system's threshold, it alternates on and off like you described. I think it is a useless feature and annoying at times as you have probably noticed. Your dash lights are functioning properly. I wonder if you can turn this feature off with the dealer's PIWIS?

I had a dealer courtesy base Cayman (non-S) for a few days and the dash lights stay on when the headlights are on. I guess the deletion of the autodim feature was a cost cutting measure on the non-S.

Is this part of the Self-Dimming Mirrors & Rain Sensor option?

I don't think so. I don't have the self dimming mirrors or rain sensing and mine does the same thing

Thanks for the info. Now here is another one. Is this somehow related to the vanity lights in the visors? Most of the timethe passenger one will not light up.

I think you can adjust it with PCM & Sport Chrono +.

It says in the manual for the Cayman S that this is standard feature - so varies in intensity
