Ever since I bought my car, I have had a most annoying rattle that sounded like it was coming from just behind the tach. Noise has been getting progressively worse. Nerves fraying. Had the car twice to the dealer, who got under there and tightened up everything they could find, and they found quite a lot that could have been the problem.
Finally, visit #3: The #$@!!! sport chrono timer plastic lens was loose! Dealer has ordered another timer. Gloriosky!
Sport Chrono and Chrono Plus
This optional package is a valuable addition for trackday use. Available in conjunction with the CDR-24 CD radio, it includes a swivel-mounted analog and digital timer unit which is centrally located on the dashboard. All functions are easily accessible via the control stalk for the on-board computer. Analog dials measure hours, minutes and seconds, while a separate digital field displays whole seconds, tenths and one hundredths of a second. A second digital display runs in parallel in the instrument cluster. Click this Link to visit the FAQ entry for Sport Chrono.
Had rattle in dash near glovebox. Dealer took car for 3 days and a weekend while I drove a Base Cayman. It turned out to be the A-pillar trim which was replaced under warranty.
Looked at invoice description and the technician removed trim, test drove the car, and replaced trim almost 10 times over 3 days before he found it. I had an awesome tech who was as picky and persistant as I am. He even had another tech drive the car while he played with the trim pieces.
Most other makes would have told me to live with it after 30 minutes.
I had an annoying rattle near the drivers side seat belt area (near my left shoulder) which got fixed first try by supposedly shaving a piece of the plastic that was rubbing.
Sleeper, I have had a rattle I thought was inside the dash too. But after reading this thread, I checked it this morning, and it is exactly the same! A rattle on the lens of the Sport Chrono clock!!!
Thanks for the tip.
"This site may save your sanity" thanks Ken!

I had the same rattle as silversled, I could tell because when I tapped on the A-pillar on the driver side, it sounded solid, but when I did it on the passenger side it would give a hollow rattling sound. Since the dealer is in a nearby town, I thought I'd try fixing it by hitting it with my palm and it did the trick, no more rattles.
I have an 07 and the chrono rattles on mine on a bumpy roar and mainly if turned towards the driver position. The lens is cheap and feels slightly loose. Is there an easy fix instead of replacement?
After having the sport chrono replaced twice on warranty, I gave up and removed the lens. This process was helped considerably by the shattering of the lens which resulted when I had had enough and belted the thing with my fist.
You really can't tell the lens is not there.

I had to laugh, not at you but over the frustration. Believe me I understand how these annoyances can get under your skin when the dealers can't rectify simple issues. Been there a few times believe me. Was yours rattling the same way?
