Buzzing Noise by front left side dashboard

My car makes a buzzing noise when I drive over 2600 RPM. I tried locating the source of the noise and couldn't figure it out so I brougt it in for service. I just received a call from the service manager and found out that the buzzing noise is coming from the key itself. My key is not even on a keychain. Its a key on its own. The service tech drove the car and held onto the key with his hand and was able to stop the buzzing. Does anyone else have this same problem? What can they do about a buzzing key?

Yes, my car's key buzzes at certain engine revs/ throttle openings...the Porsche garage offered to change the barrel , but for the moment I prefer not to let them take it apart (Mechanics don't always make things better...). Sometimes , when it decides to buzz , a light pressure on the key helps it seat better and makes it shut up. At first , when I picked the car up , I thought it was a loudspeaker cone or coverrattling...I'll probably make them fix it at the same time as I have them do something about the clicking noise from the driver's side rear window. The rest of the car goes just fine...8500 kilometers so far , and I haven't had to add any oil yet - it just goes better and better each time I get to wind it up ....

Thanks for the info. I guess this isn't a common issue due to the lack of responses. My service manager recommended trying my spare key to see if it makes the same buzzing noise. If the spare doesn't, then he will replace the 'buzzing' key with a new one.

I too have this noise on occasion and am somewhat puzzled by the fact that it is coming from the key. Does the Wilhelmy remote key modification change this in any way? I'm gonna install my remote key this afternoon and will be interested to see if anything changes. Will let you know.

I too have the same buzzing sound. Drove me nuts trying to figure out what it was. Never suspected the key. I will have to test it out now.....
