I just took delivery of my 2006 Cayman S, via FedEx Passport (Which is horrible--more on this later). Thankfully after the hell I went through with this company the car finally arrived, undamaged... but they left the key in the ignition, so it arrived with a dead battery.
We jump started it and let the battery charge, and all seemed fine. Except for the "PASM Failure" on the screen which went away as soon as I drove 10 feet.
So, I go out to dinner tonight, and I lock the doors and walk away. I decided to walk back to the car real quick to make sure it was locked and I saw the windows. They were both down about 1/4". I read the manual on this, and apparently if the battery is reset, you have to "re-learn" the stop point for the auto-up feature. Well, I tried and tried and tried, and nothing I have done works. They still won't go up when closing the doors, locking the doors, anything. So now I have this really expensive and pretty piece of metal that I can't drive and leave anywhere because the damn windows won't go up all the way.
The manual says turn the car on, press the single stage until it's all the way up, then press the second stage of the button to learn the new fully closed position. I did this countless times to no evail.
Anybody have a fix that doesn't involve me driving 2 hours to my nearest Porsche dealer?
Very frustrated with this right now.
Thanks,
Brad
PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

If you feel like experimenting try disconnecting the battery, reconnecting and trying again. Before taking the 2 hour drive call the dealer and speak to a tech who may be able to walk you through something easier. Best of luck.
Unfortunately I already tried disconnecting the battery. Everything works perfectly... except the windows going up. It's sitting in my garage right now with the driver window 1/4" down. It gave me an excuse to Lexol the full leather interior
I will call the dealer around 9am ET tomorrow and see what they have to say. Hopefully it doesn't require a trip, because that would mean taking a day off of work. Another negative point for FedEx/Passport Transport! Wait till you guys hear my step-by-step of their shipping process. HORRIBLE.
In my frustration last night I didn't think of the obvious, albeit temporary solution to this problem. With the car running, open the driver door, put the window up, and then turn the car off. I checked and it's not interfering with the window seal so I think I'll be OK until I can get a solution. No service departments are in today so I'm kinda stuck until Monday.

This is just a guess but since we are dealing with computers I'm wondering if you need to leave the battery disconnected overnight to reset the controls?
Also Porsche roadside assistance "Might" be able to suggest something given the weekend and the long distance to a dealer even if your car is not disabled.
Multi-hour battery disconnect did not work. Received a call from my salesman at Porsche of Fairfield in Fairfield, CT today. He said that the process for re-programming the windows is as follows:
1. Turn the car on
2. Put the windows all the way down/all the way up 3 times.
3. On the 3rd time, hold both switches all the way up for ~3+ seconds.
4. Programming complete.
The manual says just put them down once, all the way up, and press the button one more time to program. This doesn't work. I have no idea why the manual would explain something that is so incredibly incorrect!
Anyway, I haven't tried this yet but I'm going to on my lunch break in about 30 minutes. I'll let you guys know if it works.
Later!
Brad

I had them test one on their lot by disconnecting the battery, and they were able to program it the first time just by using the all the way down, all the way up method ONCE.
I have an appointment with my closest dealer, 2 hours away, on Friday.
Grrrr... f'ing FedEx!!!

Left this morning at 8:20, and arrived at Leith Porsche in Cary, NC at 10am. They pulled it in the back immediately, and within an hour I had my diagnosis, and a new Dec 07 inspection sticker.
They think that when FedEx Passport transport ran my battery dead, and we had to jump the car, that a "voltage spike" caused the electronic modules in the doors to go bye-bye. They couldn't do anything with it except order replacement parts. The kicker? You can't get the module seperately, so they had to order the whole window motor/brain/actuator for each door.
I will take another day off work next Thursday and go get them replaced. They estimate 2-3hrs to do the job.
Just FYI... not sure why this would happen when you jump the car, and it makes me think there are some shoddy electronics in the car. I've jumped countless cars before without problems.

Nope, not at all. And a day off work isn't bad either. Clicked over 4500 miles on it today.

Didn't see this before, sorry I could have chimed in earlier and told you it wasn't a "reset" problem. Mine does the same thing (intermittently). How I resolve the issue when it happens is by LOCKING the door with the car running, doors closed and windows up to where they are 1/4" down. That runs them up automatically. I have to set an appt. to get mine replaced as well...
