I read that there are clutch problems where the clutch would not return back up.. but does anyone have a problem trying to get into 1st gear? I only have 120 miles on my car and it's acting up
Hard shifting is one of the early signs of either the pressure plate loose bolt problem or the clutch slave cylinder going out.
If the stick doesn't go into first fairly easily - like you have to really ram it in there to get it to go into gear, then you should take it into your dealer and have them check it out.
I would stay close to home until you can get it in the shop. Sure sounds like that same problems others first noticed before their clutch failed altogether.
I find that its harder to put in first gear when moving (with the clutch all of the way down). I've never experienced that with a standard before. Is that a Porsche nuance, a sign of premature failure, or something else?
It shouldn't be "hard" to put it into any gear, but that's also a very subjective term - it's tough to say from here. If it feels abnormal to you, or it gets worse, or it becomes hard to get it into any other gear, you should take it into the dealer and have them look at it. It's certainly not one of those things Porsches "do"...
I'd say it "depends". What are you used to? First can take a firm touch but it is not hard if you are aligned correctly. If this is the first manual in awhile or the first Porsche it may be just a learning curve. I wouldn't panic at this point.
i've been driving manual since 18 and now i'm 25. i've driven hondas/acuras, supras, mr2s, bmws and this is my firs p-car. i thought i was a cold clutch.. i guess i'll have the dealer check it out now.
The dealers always act so surprised when you take your car in to be repaired. The "first time I've seen that problem"! When my clutch/ pressure plate failed, 6K, I had read about it for months on CC and asked the dealer about the problem and "difficult shifting" I was experiencing. They had a service tech drive the car with me to teach the fifty plus guy how the transmission works. H#$%, I've been driving since I was fifteen and all the cars in the beginning were sticks some, MGA, with out syncro's on first gear. But I thought well you can always learn something and maybe these new six speed are somehow different? No, the thirty something factory trained guys were wrong it was loose bolts and now repaired it shifts like I would have expected. Smooth into first, it doesn't fall into gear but a firm hand and positive. Every shift after that is now sweet . So once again if it doesn't "feel" right it's probably not! Still my CS is the most fun I've had in four wheels. I also apologize to the C5 Vette conv in Danville that couldn't keep up .
.......maybe these new six speed are somehow different? ........
Yeah, you're right. These new transmissions have a dual mass flywheel. That allows them to lighten up the clutch disc and and the rotating parts in the transmission, which means that when the clutch is down it should shift with less effort than gearboxes of the past.
It seems like I've been seeing a lot of these posts lately. It looks like the owners are all reaching that 1,300 mile point together. What once seemed like a very rare problem is starting to look a lot more common.
God, I hope they have corrected this issue. I am planning a European delivery in July, which will be a childhood dream come true for me. I plan on clocking some serious miles (1,500 - 2,000) during my 2 weeks and it will absolutely break my heart if I have to have my car towed back to Stuttgart.

Related question. Should the effort be about the same in each gear. In my car, 4th gear is definitely much harder than 1-3 and 5th and 6th is practically no effort. I'm at the 1060 mile point. So it's possible things are still breaking in but ....
