I just found your forum and decided to join. I'm currently driving a new Solstice convertible and would like to buy a Cayman . (Hope you don't mind a non-Cayman owner joining your forum).
The minute I saw this car, I began to think about the purchase. Sorry Solstice, but I always wanted a Porsche. Anyway, I took a few Cayman test drives this month and was hooked. This car is fantastic. I can't get it out of my head. My only problem right now is...... Which Color????
I'd love to hear from some of you about your experiences and recommendations regarding this car. Cayman S or base, accessories, anything that I should know.
Welcome! Enjoy the Solstice while you have it as our goal at CC will be to lure you to a Cayman! (doesn't sound like you need much pushing though).
Colours? Naturally I'm going to say GT Silver and others are going to state their preferences, but have you looked in the 'Gallery' section yet? Every colour there and some good photos to help you decide.
Welcome to the site, we don't care if you drive something else as long as you realize it can't possibly be as much fun as a Cayman! Ok kidding aside, welcome and have a look around there is all sorts of information on the Cayman here in the forum, in the gallery in the articles section, etc. even ones for sale in our Classifieds.
Welcome to Fantasy Island
I can't believe you are already disenchanted with the Sol. It can't be more than a year old. What turned you off about it? I'm not sure how to explain this... but it's a little hard for me to imagine that a little domestic roadster fan decided that a mid-engined German sports car better meets their wants/desires. Not that there's anything wrong with that. They're just so... different.
edit: on second thought, maybe I read this wrong... maybe you still like the Solstice(?)

Don't get me wrong, I love the Sol. The Sol is a great "domestic" roadster. It's just not a Porsche. My first choice was a Boxster, but I felt that the styling was a bit old. When I saw the Sol preview at the NY Auto Show, I was intrigued and wanted one. It’s styling was fresh and innovative. I waited 7 months for delivery.
Then my neighbor brought home a Cayman. At first I thought it was a newly redesigned 911, but after closer inspection, I learned the secret. (The Porsche gods started talking to me again). I went for a few test drives, and now all the family hears is Cayman, Cayman, Cayman. What can I say; I’ve always liked the engineering of these cars.
I'll probable keep the Sol (it's 10 months old now) since it is a very fun little domestic roadster, but I gotta have my Porsche.

In the mean time how do you like your Solstice?
I love the Sol. It has good power, handles very well and is built well. Early production models had some initial problems, but I'm happy to state that I have no problems at all. I guess they fixed them before mine was produced.
BTW, I love the yellow. Haven't seen one in person yet, but it is on the list. What made you choose that color?

First of all, welcome to the club. I'll chime in even though the "yellow" question wasn't directed at me. Back story - all of my previous cars have been white, black, or silver. After looking at all of the pictures in the CC galleries and several visits to the dealer I was hooked on the way yellow brings out the lines on the car. Thank goodness there isn't a dominant flagship color that I am aware of for the Cayman. Good luck on your journey towards acquisition of your Speed Yellow Cayman (all right, or whatever color you ultimately choose).
Welcome to the club. Don't worry about not owning a Cayman and being a member. If it makes you feel any better, I've been a member since September, I am 1,425+ posts deep and a moderator. I still don't own a Cayman, though my delivery date is approaching (July 16th, in Germany).
When I first came here, I had a huge appetite for knowledge. I found that the search tool can turn up information must faster than real time threads. There is so much archived information. Check it out when you get a chance.

Why speed yellow? Hmmm aside from the fact that it is the fastest color (has speed in the name afterall), 2 of my prior 3 Porsches were also speed yellow. I think what "hooked" me on it was the fact that black and yellow used to signify "high performance" from some auto parts maker back in the day (don't recall who/when at the moment). I used to joke about this with Ghost Rider and then one day saw the pics from the 1999 Frankfurt auto show where the Boxster S was being announced - in speed yellow. That kept burning in the back of my mind until eventually I bought a speed yellow Boxster S, then later a speed yellow C4S. I changed colors with the 2005 Boxster S I owned (Atlas Grey) and while a nice color it didn't "pop" as much, was harder to keep clean, and of course everyone said "why aren't you driving a speed yellow on?" so back to speed yellow I went with the Cayman and as you can see from my interior and wardrobe, you can't have too much speed yellow.
It's not a color for everyone I understand, but those who say it is hard to resale are dead wrong, I've sold both prior speed yellow Porsches in less than 2 weeks of being advertised, this one, however, is not for sale.

Speed Yellow rules! Had no intention of getting Speed Yellow (my name on this forum was originally Carmon Red in Austin) but am really glad I did. It's bold, just like the Cayman and I agree that it's not for everyone. Mine is unusual in that I don't have black interior like nearly every other Speed Yellow car. Got cocoa leather (looks black to the uninitiated), only one other with this combo that I know of. There's at least one Speed Yellow with sand beige interior and another with sea blue. Choices, truly unlimited!
Ive seen a lot of colors on different porsches here and not one color seemed to disappoint.. im getting black on black, with red stitching.. always wanted a black car!
