So after months of considering combinations of new/used caymans cayman S, 996, 996TT, 997, 997S...I ended up buying a cayman S from a board member. So far so good and the driving experience was pretty awesome...I drove from chicago to dallas in one shot.
Some observations:
-The power is probably as good as I will ever need.
-Handling seems good, but I really don't know the limits and I wasnt about to test it just yet.
-Xenons do a great job at night. I drove through the Arkansas interstate and there are no lights or even reflectors on the highway. This along with the high beams really helped out.
-Sound System. I am a big fan of sound and originally ordered my cayman without anything so as to put an aftermarket in. This one has bose and PCM and its not great, but it is better than I thought.
-Engine sound. Awesome, nothing more to add.
-Sport seats. I really wanted these either way. For me, they fit like a glove and I went the whole trip without a single backache and very little shifting in my seat. Very pleasantly surprised.

PASM vs no
PASM. I really wanted a car with
PASM after reading the reviews. This on does not have
PASM and I was concerned, but figured I would take a shot. Immediately I felt good about the decision as it felt just fine to me. However, there were a few rough roads where I thought
PASM might be good (19" sport wheels). Overall, I dont see any problem and just drove it across the country and seemed just fine. I will reserve final judgement on that later.
-Cabin sound. Shields you from the exterior noise very well...unanticipated.
-Misc. I didnt notice this in my test drives...but a really cool thing about the cayman is I cannot see the front hood when driving. This, along with the intimate cabin, makes you almost feel like you are in tune with the road. Prettry cool.
Complaints: Off the top of my head, I cannot think of a single one...*maybe* the
PASM might be nice?
Next: I cleaned off all of the bugs, but it needs to be cleaned now. Can someone point me to a boot camp on cleaning/caring for the car? I live in Las Colinas, TX if someone knows of a place to take it to?

PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
|
 |
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.
