No it will not play DVDs on the screen and safety wise not recommended if you are driving. There are options, search the forum.

As far as Nav being worth it. I like when I am going someplace I am not familiar with. It is great at night when you can't always read the signs.

I think PCM is worth it, (a) the sat nav is pretty good, (b) it gives you a host of additional features and a nice interface (audio, radio, trip, etc) and (c) it makes the interior look a lot nicer (to my eyes anyhow )

Does anyone know how much is it to install and purchase the PCM on a Cayman from the dealer? Or maybe buying the PCM on ebay and asking the private mechanics to insatll it?

I'm not one to complain about grammar but your capitalization makes your post THAT much harder to read and probably causes you to spend more time typing as well, a lose lose situation.

Nav is always nice in a car, but I think that a portable unit is a reasonable substitute for the following reasons:

1) The premium for an in-dash OEM system
2) the fact that the $200 units keep getting better every year as your $2500 system becomes slower and slower.

I stick my lttle Magellan to my passenger sun visor with velcro. It works great.

have to agree

a $400 tom tom does basically the same thing that the $2500 option does AND when your 2 seater cant be used you can take the tom tom with you. having said that most of porsche's options are just that, personal (somewhat frivolous) options. having said that i think the dash looks much sharper with it.

I have a Garmin Nuvi that sits on the dash on a "bean bag" mount. The model I bought has Bluetooth so I can make and receive calls without having to play with my cell phone.

My wife's Mercedes has a navigation system but I can't get used to it so I bring the Garmin when we go on trips in her car. (It's fun to program both navigation systems to a particular destination and see what routes they want you to take.)

I have PCM, and it is nice to have, but not worth nearly the price Porsche charges for it. I owned an Acura TL prior, and there is a world of difference between the two systems. The Acura is a 2k option, and worth at least 4k for all you get with it. Bluetooth, touchscreen, voice activated, you could even roll up or down the windows by talking to the car. The Porsche system is 2500 and not worth 1/2 the price. It is outdated, not user friendly etc.
You are much better off buying a Pioneer AVIC aftermarket.
....And before anyone jumps on this post, I didn't buy my CS for nice electronic gadgets, just stating my opinion on the OP's question.

CS or any other car for that matter - it continually baffles me why people want to play DVDs on their Nav system. When are you EVER going to watch this? Now, I'm certain people can some up with SOME circumstance where it will be handy, but you'd swear it is a necessity the way they go on and on about what an oversight this is - not so much on this forum, but other car forums I frequent.

Can people not even go for a drive without needing the idiot box on?
