What is Sport Exhaust System?

Can anyone tell me what exactly does the Sport Exhaust System do? I heard it does make the exhaust sounds better. Porsche web site doesn't really describe it much. Does it also increase the HP? How does it work? Thanks.

the sports exhaust system has a set of valves near (or maybe in) the muffler which can be opened or shut electronically by a botton in the cabin of the car. with the exhaust turned "on" the vavles open and the car get noticably throatier. I have it on my car and it is one of my favorite options. If you have no intention of buying an aftermarket exhaust then it is a great thing to have! i think there is a sound clip in the files section of the exhaust with valves opened and shut... if not just PM me with your email address and i'll email you the video i took of mine. I dont thing it adds any HP unfortunately... hope that is helpful

Thanks Sants Fe, the threads help.
Chare, I got the Sport Exhaust on mine too, just didn't know if it does anything else beside the sounds. I like it a lot too but not sure if its worth the $2K. I'm glad I have it though.

I see many people say it doesn't add hp, but haven't seen anyone do a dyno test to prove that for sure. Conceptually, it seems that it would add some power.

Anyone have some dyno numbers on this?

I have PSE on now and butt dyno says no power gain as compared to Stock, AWE or SpeedArt.

AWE made a big power difference and sounded awesome but had a vibration

SpeedArt was light weight but quiet with no detectible power increase. It also had a slight vibration

I'll never waste money on aftermarket exhaust again! Get the PSE.

Not seen any but since Porsche doesn't make any claims about increased HP it seems highly doubtful.

I'm still breaking in my car, so I don't think I have really been able to test the difference in the way it drives. What I did notice though is the MPG dropped a LOT when I turn on the sport button.

8 Hp?

There is No Reliable Data on the PSE regarding performance.

While Porsche AG does not list any performance increase associated with the Cayman, that is, for their RS 60 Spyder Porsche ANNOUNCED and published somewhat conflicting data.

Their website announcement gives two different displacments for the engine. As I recall, 3.4 AND 3.3 Liters! Posted on different pages. Furthermore, Porsche claims an 'increase in HP from 295 to 303 due to a "freer flowing exhaust,"' the PSE.

From those statemetns I assume that PSE really makes a minor difference, perhaps 8 hp.

Just to let you all know, last summer the Lone Star Region PCA had a "dyno day" at a local shop with a rolling dynomometer. We had all manner of cars arrive (about 40 or so) and the club subsidized the cost so that each member only paid $30.

I specifically wanted to find out about the sport exhaust horsepower claim -- no more power as the factory boffins claim? Or not?

Well, the factory is correct. No change in power. This particular dyno on this particular day showed mine (and +/- 2 hp) the rest of the Caymen S cars to be about 263.X hp. Both in quiet mode and loud mode.

If I read the RS60 information correctly, that muffler is not the same as the normal sport muffler. Their description likened it to that on a GT3. What that means internally in terms of chambering, etc. I have no idea. Only that they say that is one of the things they did to add 8 hp.

I hope this helps.

All the best,

- Mark
