I decided to go for a brand spanking new cayman s and I wanna order one. I just wanted to know how popular are some of the options. I would like to order a Blk on Blk with full leather sport seat, HID's leather roofliner leather sun visors, PASM, sport chronos, and bose sound. I like how navi looks with the screen but not sure if I would use it really, but for resale purpose what do you guys think. I'm selling one of my houses right now, as soon as it sells I'm gonna be a dealer ordering one
PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

I think you won't get much of the money you spend on that option back when you sell, especially since the new Porsche Design Personal Navigation Device is supposed to become available this summer.

Nav is always a good re-sale ticket but I personally opted for the Pioneer Z1 since it seems to have it all including the DVD/BlueTooth/Nav/30MB storage for music etc etc.

This thread may not be the most appropriate place, but somehow I'd like to find out more about the compatibility of AVIC series units with Caymans, especially Caymans with the Bose and CD changer options (my Cayman has those! 8-)
Does your installation look (and cost) like the Z1 shown in the iLounge review?

The cost was pretty close at around 2K but the install will vary, the one posted on this link was done with a custom surround trim. Most custom shops can do this for you are around $100 extra. There are some out there who have had the leather stich to match the factory look.

I doubt that. Its just a portable GPS no different than the high end magellans or garmins. Its NOT integrated into the car and you still have to take it up or down off the windshield and plug it in
As to how popular is PCM ... I see it purely as a regional thing. If your a track junkie ... probably dont want it. However, in this area, I was told nobody wants to the "performance" options so they load the cars with the Luxary options.
Its a regional thing and a clean, integrated GPS is one option that does add value to a car.
My car is currently at my installer's shop getting a z1 installed.
my car has the bose system, and he said some wiring and some ohm loading? (i have no clue what that means) is involved, and in addition, he suggested hooking a mono amp for the bose sub to get a little more kick out of it.
I'll post pics and info once its done, we're still debating on how to do the surround for the headunit area, I might match it to the console, or do a full leather wrap a la OEM option.
ohm loading is using resistors to bring the low-resistance Bose speakers up to the 4-ohm specification of the Z1 and other car audio solutions, Bose uses the low resistance speakers so they can market big wattage numbers. - SS

That's an easy question to answer: no, don't buy it. If you buy just for resale, you'd be lucky to gey 25 cents on the dollar, but it's easy enough to check. Go to KBB and price a used Cayman with and without nav.
It's all up to you. My Cayman S was ordered without the Nav, as i went with the Garmin Nuvi 360. After delivery, just not happy with the look of the car with the Nuvi mounted on the windshield. Ordered the retro-fit for PCM 2.1 from Suncoast, getting it install in the next couple of weeks. For me the factory look is the way to go, for others $$$ & new tech is better.
My feeling is if you are keeping the car for a long period of time, go for the PCM 2.1.

I got it because it gives MP3 support (since there's no inherent iPod support), has navigation, gives the ability to set user preferences for certain things and as someone mentioned (albeit far less important for me) looks better.
